Your comment forced me to NOT skip this account, but your implicit assessment of how it fits my comment is right on. As I read it, not a single reference to Kiki. Amazing, but then, it's their own focus on their team's performance. Interesting to contrast it to the Stanford GoStanford write-up of the game, which is all about Stanford, not much better in terms of balance and credit to the opposing team, but there is a mention of Ryan there, so I guess Stanford's version was a bit more even, if only a bit.
I appreciate that the link gave me easy access to the press conference. I found both players and coach impressive in their comments, appreciative of what they had done themselves, in this game and all season, and also of Stanford. And they certainly gave Kiki all the credit she deserved, as well as recognizing Ryan's great game.

With Pac-12 Network now irrelevant, dump Sling and go with YouTubeTV. Approx same price and a virtual DVR you can set on automatic.
There are many ways to then cast your laptop or phone screen to your big TV screen.

Great win for the ladies!!!! The game's been covered in detail by other posters, so I'll keep it short...Ryan is a really nice guard, but wow - she tore us up. She doesn't have break down quicks like Hidalgo or Sherrod. She's not a big, strong, athletic guard like Juju. Most all of her points came from simple screening action (high ball screens, pick and pop, etc.). It was pretty frustrating that our helpers (mostly Kiki and Brooke) just left her (and Brown) over and over and over again. Tara was going nuts at the lack of focus, as was Cam.
Why no Clardy? Feel like she could have changed the game.

We definitely had some defensive miscues but Ryan made some tough step back threes off the dribble. Those are Steph Curry shots that are very difficult to defend.

Odds & ends:
At the half, I (wrongly) complained that ISU's band was drumming during play. I was wrong. They had two guys jumping on the floor boards making a sound like a drum. (Rule: "5.14 Art. 17. Bands/amplified music are permitted to play or be played during any dead ball.")
When Brink & Bosgana dislodged the ball from Crooks at Q1 7:38 (and Kiki was called out of bounds as she dove to keep the ball inbounds), I believe the refs improperly gave ISU 30 seconds on the shot clock. We had not done anything (holding or dribbling, per rule) to cause control for Stanford. It should have been 15 seconds left on the clock for ISU. There should have been no credit for a steal (given to Iriafen(!)) or a turnover (given to Crooks & Iriafen).
Cardboarder in the stands spotted at Q2 5:15 clapping for Jump's 3 pointer to tie the game.
(Yes, ESPNU carried the game at 9AM Monday so I got a (presumably partial) recording.)

Cam is an incredibly competitive player. That has driven her to a level of greatness in her Stanford career. But last night she seemed to me to be a little over-amped at times. Maybe a combination of final game at Maples + memories of 2nd round loss last year + very physical game vs. ISU + frustration at not getting shots to fall. I love the way she plays. When she is at her best, she affects all aspects of the game. She is 2nd on the team in assists and leads the team in steals in addition to her scoring, rebounding and blocks. We need the Cameron Brink on the court who can do all those things but it sure is asking a lot.
I am also concerned about her FT shooting. She has only made 16 of her last 33 FT attempts. Something has definitely changed, likely both mechanically and mentally. She is wearing a sleeve with an elbow pad on her right arm. I wonder if she has (or had) an injury that affected her form.

This was an outstanding win for Stanford. It was a very unfavorable matchup. Iowa State had an athletic 300 pound center that was a challenge for Brink to guard without fouling and they ranked #7 in the country in 3 point shooting percentage. In a way, our next matchup could be easier since Tennessee and NC St are ranked 124th and 125th, respectively, in 3pt shooting percentage. Not that I'd take a player like Rickea Jackson lightly, but at least we'd have one of our best players guarding her.

In all seriousness, that's a fair headline and a nice write up. Brutal to be on the other end of this. Ryan was amazing. Stanford could not keep up with her. I know this board has a history of calling out one-sided "maul ball", but watching the action I'm surprised Brink didn't foul out much earlier. It's not just verticality. The hand is part of the ball, but arms, heads, shoulders, and necks aren't. The women's game is officiated differently than the men's, and to be transparent I watch much more of the men than the women. On the men's side yesterday, there was a lot of 'let them play' going on. Grand Canyon v. Bama was a literal slug fest.
Dumb question on both sides of basketball (men and women): what is up with the wearing of one leg sleeve? I assume they are for compression rather than a Michael Jackson tribute. I see (mostly men) in two sleeves sometimes, but both men and women in a single sleeve a lot.

About six months ag I had cataract surgery, replacing lenses in both my eyes. I opted for a toric lens. Now my vision is 20-20 butI need reading glasses. My guess is that Cam had a similar procedure. My take:
The 20-20 vision is great, but uneven. When I blink my vision blurs for a few seconds. Sometimes it blurs for reasons I’ve been unable to discern. If Cam is having similar issues, that would explain a lot.

Ryan had a great game, with 36 points and 6 of 9 on 3-pointers. But she also had 10 turnovers, which is a lot.
Overall, Stanford had 11 turnovers, compared to ISU's 19. Stanford scored 21 points off turnovers, compared to 12 points for ISU. In a close game like this, that was an important advantage.

ISU Athletics story on game
This story of course focused on the Iowa State players but was very fairly written. Their press conference quotes were also very fair. I have nothing but respect for that Iowa State team and coaches -- they gave us everything we could handle and then some, especially Emily Ryan. We had to hit big shots because they hit big shots. It was really a great game and both teams fought so hard, you hate to see a loser.
If anything, I felt the refereeing was suspect, but I am of course biased here too. Crooks is a difficult player to referee because she uses her size to her advantage, reminds me of how Shaq would turn and lead with the shoulder and at times elbow. But Cam is also hard to referee the way she reaches over (and in) with her length, not always truly straight up, so I can see why other teams feel she is fouling as well. But you have all the physicality with Crooks and Cam/Iriafen in the post, and then you have two of the most ridiculous touch fouls for Demetre's first 2 fouls?
One play I thought was very odd was when the Iowa State player hit her chin on the floor. I was frustrated with our team for not taking advantage of a 5-on-4 opportunity and continuing to push to score. Lepolo threw it ahead to Iriafen but her pass was into traffic, so she had to throw it back out. Both Demetre and Lepolo barely got to halfcourt for some reason, and then Lepolo probably didn't even realize the player was down and just stood there for 3 seconds to reset the offense, giving the refs the opportunity to stop the play just as we were starting the offense again. I don't know what the protocol is for stopping play for player safety. The Iowa State player was not in harms way on the complete other side of the court, so it still seemed odd that they stopped the game like that.
The refs stopped the play because Jackson was bleeding. Absolutely the right call to make. She busted her chin open when she planted her face into the ground.

Cam hurt her elbow weeks ago (can't remember the game) and she hasn't looked the same or shot the same since. I also noticed the pad.

Thanks Hulk. This is exactly why I asked. I thought someone would know. With a name, I looked it up: "Wilson likes how the fabric feels on her dominant leg - minor details make significant differences for athletes - and has said it keeps her warm."
I figured anyone wearing sleeves, T-shirt, etc. did so for comfort and always wondered about sleeves on only one arm or leg. I also know that athletes can be superstitious and if things go well while wearing something for any reason, even if that reason goes away, wearing that something sticks.

On TV I watched Cam heading back to her bench after fouling out and could read her lips saying "Fukc You" in the direction of the ref who called the foul. I had a flash of fear that she would get T'd up. Not a good look for her, but that last foul call was so bogus.
