Watching a replay (blaming DST). I’m so glad our unis are much better looking than NC’s. And a nice intro to the ACC, but I don’t mind flying under the radar until later in the season.
I plan to be in attendance for the 4/1 game vs Santa Clara.

Florida State is #5, UNC drops to #6, Clemson #10, Wake Forest #14, & UVa #23.
SEC has 5 teams in the top 7, and 12 in the top 25. LSU is #1.

That’s probably intentional (and you have to work to avoid names). I just looked at the article in their loss to NC State in WBB. No mention of any opponent player or coach.

Should be a good series. Duke was picked to finish 5th in the ACC preseason poll (Stanford was picked to be 8th). Duke was ranked 11th nationally in preseason, fell to 17th early & has since dropped out of the top 25. Stanford entered the top 25 at #18 after going 2-1 at UNC. Duke is 12-6, 2-1 in the ACC (losing to Cal 14-1, then winning 6-2 & 7-3), and 0-1 in their only road game.
Just looking at stats, it seems that Duke's starting pitching has struggled. Based on the series vs. Cal, their Friday guy is Kyle Johnson, who plays OF when not on the mound. In 4 starts, he is 1-3, with an ERA of 9.98 in 15.1 innings. Behind him, they have Ryan Higgins (4 starts, 1-0, 5.40 in 13.1 innings) & Andrew Healy (4 starts, 1-1, 7.27 in only 8.2 innings). But they appear to have a deep bullpen, including 4 guys with great looking ERAs & WHIPs - Ryan Calvert, Reid Easterly, Gabe Nard, & Owen Proksch.
Duke's roster looks like some of the ACC basketball teams - filled with transfers, many of them seniors & grad students. I've not noticed this before in baseball, where a lot of the best players are drafted after 3 years. Calvert (UNC Wilmington) & Easterly (Yale) are both grad transfers. Five of their top 8 hitters are transfers - Wallace Clark (a senior from Oklahoma who started at 3B as a freshman in the CWS) and grad transfers Ben Miller (from Penn - 2nd in the nation with 10 HRs & has an old-time baseball handlebar mustache!), Jake Berger & Ben Rounds (both from Harvard), & Jake Hyde from Georgetown.
Stanford outhits Duke per batting average .309-.273. But Duke's on base percentage is .427 vs. .395 for Stanford. Duke has drawn 132 bases on balls and been hit 32 times - 9 free passes per game! Clark, their leadoff hitter has 17 walks & 9 HBPs himself. And Duke slugs .517 vs. .509 for Stanford.

Great research Skip - thank you! I'm surprised to see Duke using the transfer portal this much for baseball, but it's not as tough to get into many of their grad programs and maybe this is the new Duke. They did pay $8m for their new QB. I also think their President has Stanford roots, so perhaps he can teach us a few things in this new/crazy era.
As for their baseball lineup, it sounds like they will be leaning into the zone to get the free pass. Let's hope our staff is well briefed on this trend and can work through it. I'm looking forward to this series. Hopefully the weather cooperates as it's windy out there right now.

I spent last weekend in Disharoon Park at Davenport Field (or vice versa - UVA) watching the Hoos' series against BC. BC took 2 of 3, which was a stunner. UVA frankly did not look good and they have dropped like a stone in the rankins. They did come back to beat Maryland at Fredericksburg before we left, so maybe they get it rolling when Stanford comes to town. He'll be there for sure. Perhaps because my son is so into it all, driving to daily 5:30 am workouts (once a Marine, always a Marine), we'd listen to actual radio shows about ACC baseball and whether anyone outside the ACC or SEC will be in Omaha. They are pretty high on Stanford back there generally, despite whatever the Heels are saying after a series loss.
Those all Carolina blue uniforms were hideous, but not nearly as the are you kidding me all orange pinstripes the Hoos wore during the football game scoring fest I sat through as each team burned through double digit pitchers. They looked better the next day, but BC destroyed them in a more normal game. O'Conner is good. All the years (trips to Nebraska) are his as is the big giant 2015 sign. In history, current ACC member national titles belong only to Wake, Miami, UVA, Stanford, and Cal. Oh for trips to Omaha include FSU (26!), UNC (12), Clemson (12), Louisville (5), NC State (4), BC (4), ND (3), GT (3), Duke (3), and Syracuse (1). VA Tech, Pitt, and SMU have been skunked and SMU gave up.
Despite so many failures in Omaha, the ACC is historically a good baseball league. Looking forward to the Jackets coming to Sunken. Will pick the best weather game and be there. Tech is going to be down in the middle somewhere. Hopefully Hall's last year, but hey he made the title game right about when my son was born, thirty one years ago. I think that was the Nomar/Varitek team that ran through everyone without a loss until Oklahoma when it was winner take all in that game for TV reasons. Oh, and a future Lieutenant Governor of Georgia and dude on CNN these days pitched for the Ramblin' Wreck in the CWS.

A successful squeeze play! I remember when I used to cringe every time Stanford showed bunt under Esquer. But they've looked much better lately.
I agree, the person calling the game on KZSU is very good.

Nice 5-1 win to start the series even though the bats had trouble getting started. 8 different players had hits (no one had multiple hits) while Scott’s line was 6IP, 3H, 1R, 1BB, 8K. My former roommate said he saw a bunch of scouts there checking our #1 starter out. Moore and Keenan were solid out of the pen. Let’s keep this going!

Duke went with a bullpen game. It worked well through 4 innings. Then Stanford scratched out a run in the 5th with an HBP, a walk, & a 2-out single from Brandon Larsen (1st hit of the game for Stanford) to tie it at 1-1. Charlie Saum led of the 6th with a towering HR to LF. Then 6 of the next 8 hitters reached base (one of the outs was a sac bunt) and Stanford had a 5-1 lead.
Tough night for the Ivy League (+ Georgetown) grad transfers. Reid Easterly entered the game with 2 outs in the 5th to pitch to Larsen (he was the 4th of 6 pitchers used by Duke). After Larsen's RBI single, Easterly finished the 5th, then only got 1 out (on the sac bunt) in the 6th. He ended up with the loss - 2/3 of an inning with 5 hits, 1 HBP, & 4 earned runs. Ben Rounds, Jake Hyde, Jake Berger, & Ben Miller combined to go 3 for 14 with 5 Ks (which is actually better than the other 5 batters- 1 for 16 with 1 walk and 7 Ks).
