In recent memory Kayla Pedersen, Chiney, and Talana which is pretty remarkable considering the talent on our roster her freshman year. Haley Jones started much of her freshman year but not right away on day 1.
Actually Brink was not getting a ton of minutes to start the season her first year. But during our Natty year, when we lost back to back games to Colorado and UCLA (our only loses of the year), Brink replaced Fran in the starting lineup after those losses to better help with defense and rebounding and we never lost a game the rest of the season with Cam in post.
I don’t think any of the freshman will start on day one this year but they need to get a lot of minutes and I could see the starting lineup change as the season progresses.

I would have thought she did.
She started 13 of 18 games her injury-shortened freshman season. Dijonai Carrington would have started all season except she got injured after 5 games. Jones stepped into a starting role when Carrington went down. Stanford also had Kiana Williams and Lexie Hull so there was only room for one other starting guard.

Stanford 5 star recruits (back to 2016) and the game in which they got their first start:
Courtney Ogden - 62nd game (WBIT game last season)
Lauren Betts - never started in her 1 season for Stanford; and played more than 20 minutes only twice (one an overtime game)
Indya Nivar - 21st game (only game she ever started in her 1 season at Stanford)
Brooke Demetre - 79th game (started 2 games her junior season, then started every game last year)
Cameron Brink - 13th game (once she got the starting job she never gave it up her freshman year; Stanford went undefeated the rest of the way and won the national championship)
Jana Van Gytenbeek - never started for Stanford (or Baylor)
Haley Jones - 3rd game (didn't start in 3 later freshman games, but played more than 20 minutes in 2 of those)
Ashten Prechtel - 1st game (but only started 6 total games her freshman year and 9 total in her Stanford career)
Fran Belibi - 2nd game (but only started 6 total games her freshman year)
Hannah Jump - 64th game (would go on to start every single game her senior and Covid seasons)
Lexie Hull - 1st game (started her first 3 games, but none after that her frosh year, though averaged 20.2 min)
Jenna Brown - never started at Stanford (or Notre Dame)
Kiana Williams - 10th game (and started every single game in her Stanford career after that, notable because she is the last PG we have had who is as highly rated as Hailee Swain is)
Maya Dodson - 12th game (but only started 4 games her frosh season, and 24 games in her 3 Stanford seasons)
Estella Moschkau - never started or played material minutes in her 3 seasons with Stanford; but she started 24 games and averaged 26.7 minutes in her senior season at Wisconsin
Nadia Fingall - 47th game (but only started 8 total games her first 2 seasons, started all but 2 of her junior/senior season games)
DiJonai Carrington - 39th game (though only started 7 games her sophomore season)
I put the odds of our 5 star frosh starting early this season higher than some of those above because of the unique attributes they add to the roster.

Wow, this is awesome. Thanks for putting it together. I will say, although I do understand that Betts being behind Cam and Kiki justified keeping her on the bench at the tip, it is striking that one of our highest rated recruits of all time was pretty constrained her freshman year relative to most of our even less well regarded top recruits historically.

In thinking about our highly touted freshmen playing in today's world of NIL and the increased use of the portal, I'm not so concerned that any of them start right away, but rather getting significant minutes (early and often) and letting them develop and grow on the court- and not pulling them at the first mistake they made.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I recall Tara letting Haley play through mistakes but not so the other freshmen. With great respect to Nunu (who greatly elevated her game last season) and to Chloe (who also improved significantly, the only way I see this team rising in the ACC, making the top 16 and hosting the first and second round games- is with Agara, Clardy and the 3 all-American freshmen.

You are correct. Freshman, unless extremely talented have to spend some time learning how to play against players as good as they are or better. Play some easier games, let them learn, by ACC time they will be much better.

No - he really meant Marta. She (and Fran Belibi) played in the scrimmage today.

Few observations from today's Red/White game
Fope Ayo was the recruit sitting with her parents courtside.
Somfai was the star of the scrimmage. I had her for about 21 points mostly on threes but a couple of nice drives. Next in line were Clardy and Swain with around 12 points each. Swain showed a nice handle on a couple of nifty drives to the hoop. I'm believing the hype. Couple of steals
Carly Amborn wasn't bashful about shooting. Made a few. Looks like a future 3 point sniper. Ezeke didn't play too much. Looked okay, but not likely a big contributor
Leopolo looked healthy and played a lot. She didn't shoot much. Played like her normal self. Eschmeyer needs a little more seasoning to get to the Somfai/Swain level. Had a few buckets but also missed a couple around the rim. Needs to get stronger with the ball. Hit a nice three. Promising.
Ogden, Ojiwoye, Stevenson, Umeh looked much like last year. Peterson got some minutes. She moved well but has to show more. As noted, Agara didn't play.

When we refer to "last year's" Ogden, which do we mean? The one who scored 2 points in the WBIT game or the one from the preceding 5 games:
DATE LOC OPP MIN
PTS FG% REB AST
2/20/25 @ Virginia Tech 35
15 60.0% 4 1
2/23/25 @ Virginia 33
17 41.2% 8 8
2/27/25 H Miami (FL) 29
18 63.6% 4 4
3/02/25 H Georgia Tech 29
16 70.0% 4 3
3/05/25 N Clemson 30
13 60.0% 3 2
Also does anyone know what position Somfai was playing in the Cardinal & White game? Was it the 4? If so, who played the 5 when she was in?
