"Like Bonds not in the Hall of Fame" sounds like Alex Rodriguez.

A Rod is correct

Who invented The Wave?

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025-2026 - BobK - 10-04-2026

Crazy George. Of San Jose State. A former bootleg poster was his roommate not long after college

Krazy George - Wikipedia

He actually had a pretty interesting life. Formerly a teacher, decided to be a full-time booster. He worked for:

- Five NFL teams (Oilers, Chiefs, Vikings, Saints, Titans)
- Three NCAA football teams
- Two Canadian Football teams
- Five NHL teams (California Golden Seals were his first team after SJSU football, Avalanche, Oilers, Rockies, Jets)
- Two MLB teams (Oakland A's and Rockies)
- Five NASL teams (Quakes of course)
- Multiple minor league hockey and soccer teams
- One minor league baseball team (San Jose Giants)
- Arena football (Houston Stallions)
- Minor league hockey including WHL (Vancouver)

Vikings GM complained about KG making noise when he worked for an opposing team...so he hired him.

The Chiefs and Oilers had a bidding war over him.

He lives in Capitola and still cheers at Quakes games. He's 82 years old.

Not really a question, but I think it's interesting that three of the Top 10 NFL playoff winning coaches (minimum 10 games) are 49er coaches, led by former multi-time Stanford head football coach Bill Walsh. Using career postseason winning percentage, minimum 10 games coached, here is the Top 10:

                                                 Playoff
Rk. Coach            Record      Win%    Championships
1   Vince Lombardi     9–1        90%    5 NFL titles (2 Super Bowl Wins)
2   Tom Flores         8–3        73%    2 Super Bowl Wins
3   Bill Walsh        10–4        71%    3 Super Bowl Wins
4   Joe Gibbs         17–7        71%    3 Super Bowl Wins
5   Bill Belichick    31–13       71%    6 Super Bowl Wins
6   Jimmy Johnson      9–4        69%    2 Super Bowl Wins
T-7 Chuck Noll        16–8        67%    4 Super Bowl Wins
T-7 George Seifert    10–5        67%    2 Super Bowl Wins
9   Kyle Shanahan      9–5        64%    0 Super Bowl Wins
10  Tom Coughlin      12–7        63%    2 Super Bowl Wins

George Halas misses the 10 game cutoff by one. He won six NFL titles and went 6-3 in playoff games.

Thus far in the 2026 season, what do Rutgers, Oklahoma State and Cal have in common?

Does it have to do with transfers?

First time I saw the wave was on November 20, 1982 in Strawberry Canyon. So forgive me if I haven't/won't participate!

Correct!

UMass beat Rutgers
Tulsa beat Oklahoma State
UNLV best Cal

I think this fact does a nice job of summarizing the increasing gap between P4 and G6.

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025-2026 - Papa John - 10-16-2026

This MLB season all 5 teams in the AL West finished with a negative run differential for the regular season:
   Houston Astros -32
   Texas Rangers -46
   Seattle Mariner -58
   West Sacramento Athletics -238 (!)
   Los Angeles Angels -97

However, this is not the first time this "feat" has happened in MLB. What was the first-and-only-other-modern-era MLB regular season--give the year, league and division--in which every team in a division finished with a negative run differential?

I don't know the year, but my guess would be the perenially awful AL West...

RE: Sports trivia thread 2025-2026 - Papa John - 10-17-2026

It was the West, but not the AL.

The 2025 NL West standings, regular season record and run differential
San Diego 82-80 -42
Arizona 77-85 -160
San Francisco 75-87 -96
Los Angeles 71-91 -70
Colorado 67-95 -122

Related question: which MLB team, in the modern era (since 1900), had the single-season/regular-season run differential? Give the team and the year the feat was accomplished.

Yankees 1927

My bad. I meant to say the worst run differential! That's what I get for typing on my phone...

For what it's worth, the 1939 Yankees had the best modern era run differential, but the 1927 Yankees are second. Silver medal for BobK!
