After Northwestern I asked "Where is the team we were promised?" - Rally - 10-03-2015

Well, they are here.  Thank God.  Sure is fun.  And love seeing Shaw show emotion.

Unable 2 watch, only listen.  But it sounds really really good...

Oh, it is even better than it sounds.

I can't tell how bad Arizona is, but given that I thought we looked very good in every phase of the game.  And signs of hope with Chryst.

Chryst, Irwin, Love.  The future is bright.  But for now I'm savoring the present.  Bigger test coming up, and the Bruins will be one angry bunch looking for revenge.  Can't wait

The best test is, as a fan I have little idea what is coming next.  As opposed to previous years, where I could probably guess who which group of RBs or WRs would get the ball on the next play.  And if I could guess, the opponent could too.  Look at the stats, we had multiple passes to 6 receivers.  And between C-Mac and Barry, we always have someone with fresh legs who could explode, and Wright has really moved into this place at the goal line guy.

And heck, even Ukropina has been key.  Those first couple drives, where we didn't get the TDs, I loved that we were still moving the ball and putting points on the board, in what at the time I figured might be a shootout.

On the other hand, lately we've been running 70% of the time. McCaffrey is getting a far larger share of the carries than anyone did last year. Everybody knows whose getting the ball when Wright comes in (and perhaps others). Last year we completed passes to more receivers generally (vs OSU 10 players caught passes in 2014 / 6 in 2015, etc. - this scales with the number of passes which is way down lately).

I think the role of unpredictability in the current success of the offense over last year has been vastly overstated.

I think Shaw is correct.  They key isn't which play when it's the way the play is executed.

Putting Chryst in as a lead blocker was brilliant.

Easier to say since it worked I suppose, but it's clear Keller is an athlete.

That first block reminded me of (dare I write it?) Luck.

It's not unfair to compare Chryst to Luck in terms of physical attributes, except Keller is slightly bigger I think.  After watching his high school tape I had thought Keller reminded me more -- physically speaking -- of Roethlisberger, but he flashed more Luck last night.

I think calling him the next Luck would be very premature, but making a physical/athletic comparison is valid.

Regardless of the hold, I was pretty impressed by Chryst's athleticism in that 33(?) yard run.

Funny you should mention, I was thinking Roethlisberger as well.  Athlete or no, Keller is absolutely a LOAD.  Not many QBs de-cleat tacklers.

Wait!  Aren't all of our QB recruits "the next Luck?"  At least until they enroll.

Seems much more unpredictable to me.  For one thing, where and how we are running has changed and the personnel at the snap of any play does not give away the play nearly to the degree it did last year.  Even Wright's goal line and short yardage plays are not uniform in how they are blocked or the focus of the attack.  But mixing in Love and several different varieties of the Wildcat do much to create uncertainty on the other side of the line.  Plus, the mix of our pass/run play selection seems more variable.  I feel that we have more balance in the weaponry available and have thusfar done just enough with each set of weapons to plant them firmly in the opposition's mind.

I sit 14 rows behind the Stanford bench.  Our group was talking about Chryst before he went into the game.

He is more than a LOAD.  He is brobdingnagian.  He is listed as 6'5, 228#.  He's clearly 6'5" but I'll bet he weighs more than 228.  His lower body looks like a linebacker's.

Chryst grabbed my eye as soon as he rounded the corner.  Not just the body but how he moves.

He threw that block right in front of my seats.  He's bigger than Luck especially in the chest & shoulders.  I'd put him up around 240.

His high school film certainly doesn't do his athleticism justice.  I knew he could move but he's much faster than I thought.  Fluid runner, long strider.

Yeah, watching the highlights, dang that's a big boy.
