MSoc: Another successful weekend - washingtonismoney - 10-18-2015

Undiscussed this weekend: Men's Soccer had another successful weekend, taking a jaunt down to Southern California. The team beat UCLA, 2-1; and San Diego St., 3-1. Morris had two goals on his return to the college game.

Stanford's now on a twelve-game unbeaten streak.

Yea!  With women's volleyball (lost to unranked Colorado) and men's water polo (4-game losing streak) struggling, it's nice to have another sport besides women's soccer to pick up the non-football fall sports.

Women's XC 4 th at the brobdingnagian Wisconsin Meet without our top 2 runners.

Men have some health issues as do the women but if healthy for regionals we will be very good

Speaking of Olympic sports, a question for Stanford golf fans - any idea why Albane Valenzuela is not listed on the women's golf roster?  Did she not enroll this year?  The women are having a good fall so far but I did expect that Valenzuela might press for playing time since the team was kind of weak at #5 last year.

She will enroll next year.  She is deferring for a year.

That UCLA men's soccer game was a real nail-biter. With just a few minutes left, UCLA had the equalizer nullified by an offside call. The player was in offside position, but from the replay it doesn't really look like he was involved in the play. It was a tough call for the AR because the UCLA striker to whom the centering pass was intended was making a run and might have been shielded from the AR's view. I just mention it because we got the bettter of a questionable call on the road, which doesn't often happen (IMO of course). And Jordan Morris' game-winner was a no-doubt laser from way out into the far upper corner of the net. That was one heck of a boot!

Finally, it's worth noting that this win is the first for men's soccer at UCLA since the beginning of time!

Nice return to college for Morris; he's the men's soccer player of the week.
