Fun at the GSB - Nan3cy - 10-19-2015

I think there has already been a thread about this, but I can't find it. The article is fascinating in an "ewwww" kind of way. As a GSB alum I'm scratching my head wondering how much I believe about who says what. But the comment about how atomized and anti-social the place is really resonated.

I'm starting at the GSB next year so I've been following this pretty closely.

I liked the Bloomberg piece a lot better than the Vanity Fair piece.  The VF piece felt a lot more like a slam piece.

Take this quote from Vanity Fair:
"Partly it’s the press: there’s not much left of it in the Bay Area, and The Stanford Daily has proved supine: “Not quite the [Harvard] Crimson, which would have printed this story gleefully years ago,” a former business-school student, one of the few to learn about and follow the Phills case, complained on her blog."

They don't even link to this 'blog.'  I Googled the quote, and it led me to this page: http://gamesandgowns.com/2015/05/

Great source Vanity Fair.

And I thought my life was interesting....... ::)

Re: Fun at the GSB - Nan3cy - 10-19-2015

You're right, amartin, the Bloomberg article is better, if not as juicy. (But there is plenty of juice without adding any...)

Congrats on getting admitted, by the way -- in a couple of years you'll be making a bunch more than I ever did (I was one of the least ambitious Stanford MBAs you'll ever run into).

I take exception to that Nan3cy!

I covered myself on that, Ferrari -- note the "one of" not "the least." I've always said my job was to provide a floor for the class of '76... :)

Today's NY Times has another interesting story.

The Related Coverage section in there ... man, NYT has run some negative articles about Stanford of late. Not to say any were disgraces to journalism, but sort of interesting cumulatively. Someone with more time than sense might find it interesting to compare the paper's coverage of the various prestige schools.
