Re: All Pac 12 team - BostonCard - 12-01-2015

Hogan was robbed.  Goff may be the better pro prospect, but he was not the better QB in the Pac-12.

McCaffrey, Murphy, Garnett, Hooper, and Martinez were all expected and welcome.

I'm pleasantly surprised Shittu made it to the first team (though I guess if you picked 5 DL).

I thought Ukropina hd a chance at second team, but the competition at kicker is fierce, and we simply didn't give him that many FG kicking opportunities.

Leach did a pretty good job with his rag-tag bunch of lovable misfits.

Yep. Obviously the voters favored pass-happy offenses and big numbers over efficient, effective quarterbacking.

Of course it might be fair to throw Vernon Adams numbers into the discussion.

PER in conference games:
191.7  Adams

PER in all games:
179.6 Adams

QBR:
78.7 Adams

Yds per attempt in conference games:
10.74  Adams

Yards per attempt in all games:
10.2 Adams

Rushing Yards:
155

Of course Adams missed a couple of games. He officially played in 9, I think somewhat sparingly in one of those.

I agree that Adams deserves consideration for first team All Pac-12. I posted yesterday (on a different board, I think) that I thought Hogan and Adams were the top two quarterbacks, with Goff also in the discussion, and Falk not really in the discussion. I would have given it to Hogan because Adams missed too much time.

The Pac-12 voters, in their wisdom (or lack of it), had Hogan on the second team and Adams as honorable mention. My statistical comparison above included Hogan, Goff, and Falk because those were the Pac-12's first and second team picks. My point is that Hogan should have been ahead of Goff and Falk. Whether Hogan deserved to be ahead of Adams would depend on how you evaluate the time Adams missed, the intangibles, game management, and team success.

Re: All Pac 12 team - ThePassionOfTheChryst - 12-01-2015

Completion %:
KH -- 68.3
JG -- 64.2

Yards/attempt:
KH -- 9.2
JG -- 8.6

Pass attempts per TD:
KH -- 11.78
JG -- 13.30

Pass attempts per INT:
KH -- 38.71
JG -- 37.85

TD/INT ratio:
KH -- 3.29
JG -- 2.85

Rushing TD:
KH -- 4
JG -- 0

W-L record:
KH -- 10-2
JG -- 7-5

With Hogan's current stats, had he thrown 492 passes, he would look like this:
336/492 for 4526 42 TDs-13 INTs

Yeah, seems like the Pac-12 got this one right...

Granted, Henry is about to win the Voldemort despite being about as one dimensional as a back can be, so I suppose it's not just the conference.

The other three-time winners of coach of the year? Dennis Erickson, Pete Carroll, and Don James. Solid company.

Re: All Pac 12 team - CornFed - 12-01-2015

Except Shaw is the first three-time winner who is also a class act!

Ummm... not really.  Carroll and James both got their teams in trouble with the NCAA.  That's not the sort of company that I want WalshShaw to keep.

Do they not pick a Player of the Year?

Re: All Pac 12 team - BostonCard - 12-01-2015

They pick two players of the year, one on offense and one on defense.

McCaffrey was the pick on offense.

Buckner from Oregon was the pick on defense.

Re: All Pac 12 team - Rally - 12-01-2015

Robbed!  They pick Jackson 2nd team returned, first team AP, MCCaffrey first team returner and no mention for AP?  Leading the nation doesn't count?  Are they into Participation Trophies these days?  (Just fooli, really.  No big deal.)

Ask every Pac-12 coach who they'd like to have behind center.  I'd guess Hogan's name is #1 or #2 from all of them, and I'm not sure half of them would say Goff.
