If we somehow face Alabama this bowl season, we won`t have to face Smart. He should have been chosen to lead Auburn instead of Malzahn, IMO. He`s the real deal.

Will Smart leave before the bowl game? That seems unlikely to me.

The story is he would not be participating in post-season bowls, the conference championship game is different story: now considered part of the regular season, even for wannabes like Kentucky and Vanderbilt if they can pick themselves up off the mat. And, anyway, Smart has got a new job to do and it would be a di.ck move to insist that he stick around when his new team really needs him. FWLIW, even Nick Saban understands this.

It is not yet known if Smart would continue coaching at Alabama if the Crimson Tide wins Saturday and makes the College Football Playoff. There's a precedent for doing it as former Alabama offensive coordinator Jim McElwain coached Alabama in the 2012 national championship after accepting the Colorado State job.

Yes he will. He can't sign until after the CCG on Saturday, at which point he will not be at Bama.

I will reserve judgment on whether Smart is the real deal as a head coach until we see results. I'm not really doubting his ability as a coach, or predicting failure at all. Just the football world is littered with coaches who were great coordinators but who couldn't succeed at the HC level.

in conversations about UGA, Scott Cochran, Alabama's weight room coach, is considered an equal coup to Smart. if Cochran works as much with the players as Turley does with our guys, this may proved to be a bigger immediate loss.
on oddities, UGA is #8 in cfb in fewest yards given up per game but the AD doesn't like the current DC, who is looking elsewhere.

I did hear about the S&C coach leaving as well, and I do hope that it's a big crack in the foundation that is Bama football.
