A letter to Kevin Hogan -

from a fan (Jill Wishnant)
Quote:On January 2, 2012, in the waning moments of the Fiesta Bowl, Andrew Luck played his final snap in a Cardinal uniform. As the field goal sailed wide left, Stanford fans turned their collective attention to two things:
Rage (!)
Prognosticating about who would be the heir-apparent to Lucks proverbial throne.
....
Youve been the starting quarterback for four years now, and now is the time for you to fly the nest. You replaced the irreplaceable and now you seem irreplaceable.

I didn't hang on the fence to watch spring practices back in 2012, but knew relatively early in the 2012 season that Hogan would be the starter sooner rather than later.
Hogan is set to have a few honors too. 3 time starting QB for Pac-12 CG & 3 time winner of Pac-12 CG. 3 time Rose Bowl starter, and if Hogan wins the 2016 Rose Bowl he will become a LOCK for the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame. And Hogan was the first Stanford QB to beat USC TWICE in one season. :)
It is so easy to just ask a few what-ifs when teams, and players, are so close to the top of the sport, but there is no doubt that the me at the 2012 Fiesta Bowl would have been very willing to take the next four years of Stanford football we have enjoyed.

I would think he's gotta also be the first to have played in 4 Big Game wins and possibly the first to have started 3 wins. (For QBs that is.)

The first to go 5-0 vs UCLA?
Re: A letter to Kevin Hogan -

Might be the first QB to go 5-0 against any team.

But if I'm reading Wikipedia correctly, only 2 of them would have been wins, right?

I know the players and circumstances have been different, and major credit always needs to go to the trailblazers, but when I think about what Hogan and his teams have accomplished it is just astonishing. Three Rose Bowls, two RB wins, three conf. Championships, defeated every team multiple times (to the point of ridiculousness re UCLA) turned a floundering season into Rose Bowl Champs, quiet but firm leadership through adversity, personal and otherwise, and never once visited Cardboard to tell us to shut up :) the next man up has big pads to fill, as big as Hogan had. Here's hoping.

The ultimate in woofing. Like it.
*Also, never beat Utah in two tries. Small point I guess.
