Bleacher Report's top 29 running backs - Rally - 12-15-2015

I know this source isn't held in high esteem by many here but I found it interesting.  Top 10 loaded with Pac12 players.  Interesting that they cr sit McCaffrey as one of only three players in history to top 3000 yards but don't mention the record.  If you don't want to read the analyses in the slide show . . . McCaffrey #1, Henry #4.

RE:      Gala Christmas Party

I'm happy to inform you that the company Christmas Party will take place on December 23rd, starting at noon in the private function room at the Grill House.

There will be a cash bar and plenty of drinks!  We'll have a small band playing traditional carols... Feel free to sing along.  And don't be surprised if our CEO shows up dressed as Santa Claus!

A Christmas tree will be lit at 1:00 PM.  Exchanges of gifts among employees can be done at that time; however, no gift should be over $10.00 to make the giving of gifts easy for everyone's pockets.

This gathering is only for employees!

Our CEO will make a special announcement at that time!

Merry Christmas to you and your family,
Patty

RE:      Gala  Holiday  Party

In no way was yesterday's memo intended to exclude our Jewish employees.  We recognize that  Hanukkah is an important holiday, which often coincides with Christmas, though unfortunately not this year.

However, from now on, we're calling it our "Holiday Party."  The same policy applies to any other employees who are not Christians and to those still celebrating Reconciliation Day.

There will be no Christmas tree and no Christmas carols will be sung.

We will have other types of music for your enjoyment.

Happy now?

Happy Holidays to you and your family,
Patty

RE:        Holiday  Party

Regarding the note I received from a member of Alcoholics Anonymous requesting a non-drinking table, you didn't sign your name...

I'm happy to accommodate this request, but if I put a sign on a table that  reads, "AA Only", you wouldn't be anonymous anymore.  How am I supposed to handle this?

Somebody?

And sorry, but forget about the gift exchange, no gifts are allowed since the union members feel that $10.00 is too much money and the executives believe $10.00 is a little chintzy.

REMEMBER: NO GIFTS EXCHANGE WILL BE ALLOWED.

Patty

RE:        Generic  Holiday  Party

What a diverse group we are!  I had no idea that December 20th begins the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which forbids eating and drinking during daylight hours.

There goes the party!  Seriously, we can appreciate how a luncheon at this time of year does not accommodate our Muslim employees' beliefs.  Perhaps the Grill House can hold off on serving your meal until the end of the party or else package everything for you to take it home in little foil doggy baggy.  Will that work?

Meanwhile, I've arranged for members of Weight Watchers to sit farthest from the dessert buffet, and pregnant women will get the table closest to the restrooms.

Gays are allowed to sit with each other.  Lesbians do not have to sit with Gay men, each group will have their own table.

Yes, there will be flower arrangement for the Gay men's table.

To the person asking permission to cross dress, the Grill House asks that no cross-dressing be allowed, apparently because of concerns about confusion in the restrooms.  Sorry.

We will have booster seats for short people.

Low-fat food will be available for those on a diet.

I am sorry to report that we cannot control the amount of salt used in the food .  The Grill House suggests that people with high blood pressure taste a bite first.

There will be fresh "low sugar" fruits as dessert for diabetics, but the restaurant cannot supply "no sugar" desserts. Sorry!

Did I miss anything?!?!?

RE:        The Holiday Party

I've had it with you vegetarians!!!  We're going to keep this party at the Grill House whether you like it or not, so you can sit quietly at the table furthest from the "grill of death," as you so quaintly put it, and you'll get your salad bar, including organic tomatoes.

But you know, tomatoes have feelings, too.  They scream when you slice them.  I've heard them scream.  I'm hearing them scream right NOW!

The rest of you wierdos can kiss my......  I hope you all have a rotten holiday!

RE:      Patty Lewis and  Holiday  Party

I'm sure I speak for all of us in wishing Patty Lewis a speedy recovery from her recent nervous breakdown and I'll continue to forward your cards to her at the asylum.

In the meantime, management has decided to cancel our Holiday Party and give everyone the afternoon of the 23rd off with full pay.

Also in a related link, the 17 best pro-style passers.

Hogan is #6.  I probably would have taken a few more points off for arm strength (he got a 22/25 despite this narrative, "Coaches aren't going to teach their players to throw like Kevin Hogan, whose delivery could best be described as a mix between a shot put and a sidearm sling. He can't go very deep, often underthrowing long routes, but Stanford didn't take that approach enough to make it an issue."), but I would give a few more points for mobility and intangibles.

I haven't watched most of those guys enough to have a good feel of where I think there relative rankings should be - my rough intuition is the rank-order itself may be fine.
BUT, there is a lot not to like in that (annoyingly click through) article.

First of all, while I am not sure of Hogan's arm strength, he has been pretty accurate on deep balls, and as far as I can tell has missed as many long as short.

Secondly, for most of their categories they are working with a 25 point scale but give almost everyone the same numbers, regardless of their comments.
So, arm strength has every single guy except Christian Hackenberg between 21 and 23. (Hackenberg is at 24 - and outside of being a top HS recruit it's hard to see why he is on anyone's list of top XX quarterbacks: he threw for less yards than Hogan, PER=124 (83rd), 82nd in ESPN's QBR.)

For that matter, #2-12 all have a total rating between 86 and 89, with about 3-4 guys at each number. So, really everybody is the same.

They have these kinds of excellent agreement between statements and ratings:

on Brissett at NC State: " I don't see great arm strength"
Arm Strength rarting 23/25 (tied for second).

on Cook at MSU: "For a player who's had as much success as Cook, he throws a lot of incomplete passes. All three of his seasons as starter have seen him complete fewer than 60 percent of his throws"
Accuracy: 23/25

--------------
I think there are a few issues with Hogan w.r.t. the NFL: his long throwing motion means he takes longer to get the ball out; he has generally not had to shoulder an NFL-level passing load and it is not clear how well he could do so; when he has a bad day he tends to have a really bad day (his <100 PER games: 2 in 2015, 2 in 2014, 2 in 2013; all but one of those <90).

Re: Bleacher Report's top 29 running backs - BostonCard - 12-15-2015

I think of the flea flicker against Central Florida, where Hogan literally gave it every once of strength he had.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DD4qTeZ-EYM

The ball travels from our own 42 to the UCF 10 yard line, so it goes about 48 yards in the air.  That's a throw Andrew Luck makes from his knees.

https://youtu.be/ZK3HxoSk608?t=1m23s

That's not to say he has poor arm strength, but I think he doesn't have elite arm strength.  If we go with the same overall score (88/100), which seems about right, I'd have given Hogan a 18/25 in arm strength, 23/25 in accuracy, 19/20 in mobility (since this is a pro-style passer evaluation), and 29/30 on intangibles.

Re: Bleacher Report's top 29 running backs - Red State - 12-15-2015

On Stanford's first possession in the CCG, Hogan threw a bomb intended for Rector that was broken-up/dropped. Hogan released the ball from his 42 yard line, and, had the ball not been touched it probably would have landed close to the goal line, around 58 yards. It didn't appear to me that Hogan was struggling to throw it that far. I'd say he'd probably max-out around 65 yards on a deep ball.

Re: Bleacher Report's top 29 running backs - BostonCard - 12-15-2015

I will be very interested in seeing where Hogan goes in the draft, and how his professional career progresses.  I could see him wind up as a poor man's Tom Brady, with much better mobility/athleticism.

The problem is that Hogan looks like he is giving every ounce of strength he has even in his screen passes. That crazy wind up makes it hard to tell how hard he is really working.

I thought you were going to nab me for using "literally" when I meant figuratively.  Though I suppose strength can be looked at in terms of peak force generated, in which case, an ounce (properly, an ounce force) might be the right unit.  FYI One ozf is 0.28 Newtons.
