Interesting. They don't have much experience on their D line either. IMHO the team that controls the line of scrimmage usually has their way with their opponent...

Brady Hoke is apparently upset with the progress of the duck's defense:

I like that the URL got the metaphor backwards, apparently it was fixed in the headline.

Man, if you read the comments from Duck fans about their OL and team, you'd think they are national title contenders.
New QB? No problem. Three Frosh OL? Why worry? Best player gone off suspect defense, and best returner now suspended for sex assault? We'll be better than last year at every position but Buckner's!
Yes, great WRs and RBs, but appears like a lot of whistling past the graveyard to me.

I noted when WIM posted the comments from Hoke that it was nothing more than coachspeak and shouldn't be taken seriously one way or the other. I mean, it could be that Hoke is trying to temper expectations, and it could be that Hoke is trying to motivate his players, but it could also be that he is trying to keep them focused and prevent them from getting complacent. Last spring, Mora had some pretty choice comments about Josh Rosen that turned out to be mostly a message to Rosen to not get complacent. It didn't portent a QB controversy, and while I'm not yet sold on Rosen, the next big thing, he certainly wasn't as awful as Mora implied he was concerned about.

A work colleague of mine recently went to Vegas and plunked down 2 GR on the Ducks to win the national championship in football. 50-1 odds. Almost makes me want to root for the Ducks to go all the way. Almost.

Judging by the players' quotes, they seem to be paying attention and are on the same page re: lack of quality in defense. Who knows. But I think it's somewhat odd.

Yeah, if you only read the headline and the first paragraph it seems like a nonstory. But reading the whole thing makes it sound like there's a looming disaster in Eugene and everyone sees it coming.

I wonder if they'll still keep getting the great recruits when they go 7-6...

As long as they can sell a flashy, stat-heavy offense with the glory of recent-enough seasons backing up that philosophy, I think Oregon will be around for a while. Oh, and Phil Knight's $$$ doesn't hurt either.

Ha, I'm pretty sure I know who that was!
