Lotta solid coaches have gotten their careers buried by the Bills.

Was just about to post this. To think, when they were choosing between Shaw and Roman, I thought they'd made the wrong choice.

Love what the guy did while on the Farm. Hopefully he finds another opportunity soon.

Could Shaw make use of him here again?  Or is he now priced out of the college market...

Well, he's been canned twice now in the NFL, though perhaps that's not uncommon in that market. Maybe he'll take on some consulting work while he considers his next steps.

Getting fired with the 49ers seems incidental; he lost his job because Harbaugh did.

The Bills is a bit more complicated. He actually did good work with Tyrod Taylor, who had an impressive 7.99 YPA last year. And it's not clear the offense is all that bad this year either -- their first game was miserable; their second, OK. This firing looks to me more like a "THINGS ARE GOING BAD, DO SOMETHING" knee-jerk move than a genuine diagnosis of things going wrong, IMO.

If Shaw wants to hire Roman, his NFL experience shouldn't be a warning.

You can't put a price to be back on The Farm.  If we lose Bloomgren this season, I'd love to get Roman.  Scratch that.  Let's get him back now as an "Offensive Analyst".

It would be nice if the Stanford AD would afford Shaw the luxury of consultants ala Saban .

Re: Greg Roman on the market... - Mick - 09-16-2016

In Roman's first three years with the 49ers, his teams finished 4th, 4th and 3rd in the NFL in points.  That's not exactly terrible, particularly coming after years of not making the playoffs.  And they've always been strong in rushing...Roman's offenses in seven years as an OC in the NFL had an 8th place finish his first year, then have never been worse than 4th, including this year.  His passing offenses, on the other hand, are pretty execrable.  The best finished 23rd.  And maybe that's a function of the QBs he's had to deal with.

Roman has a great pedigree.  He's worked with Harbaugh, Billick, Seifert, Capers and Rex Ryan.  His first year with Buffalo, they finished 12th in the NFL in points.  Not too bad for an 8-8 team that started Tyrod Taylor at QB.

He'll do well with someone.  I'm sure he'll get picked up.

There were reports that Roman interviewed for the Penn State HC gig.

I suspect if he chooses to coach in college, it will be as a head coach.

If so, then spending a season at Stanford wouldn't be a bad way to while away the time until the next hiring cycle.

But hey, the Bills scored 31 points in their loss vs. the Jets.  I don't think the offense was at fault here--look at their defense, which gave up three rushing TDs to Matt Forte.  But do you think Rex Ryan is going to fire his brother (Rob, the DC)?

Shenanigans.

ESPN columnist proclaims it's hard to sell Greg Roman as the scapegoat: http://www.espn.com/blog/buffalo-bills/post/_/id/25960/rex-ryan-will-struggle-to-sell-greg-roman-as-bills-scapegoat

Re: Greg Roman on the market... - fullmetal - 09-16-2016

I don't think Rex Ryan is trying to sell this at a profit.  He'll sell this story at a loss just to take heat off his brother.

Shaw's not gonna rent-a-coordinator, but if Bloomgren leaves he'd be a candidate provided he's willing to make some kind of a commitment

Re: Greg Roman on the market... - Hurlburt88 - 09-17-2016

My bet is Harbaugh grabs him as an analyst for the rest of the year

Clearly a well planned personnel move: http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/17576995/greg-roman-poses-buffalo-bills-team-picture-fired
