Gillaspie's been a favorite of mine for a while. He was a 2008 first round pick of the Giants, ticked off some people when he came in very arrogant, learned some humility (who wouldn't, playing for the White Sox?), then returned to the Giants recently. When he's playing regularly, he's actually quite good. Nunez is out, so Gillaspie stepped in.Â
Evidence from last night, that he's a clutch player:

Evidence from the last game of the season, only the third time in SF Giants history that a playoff spot came down to the last game of the regular season. Audio by Vin Scully in his last game:

Yeah not really...
It will feel like a long time ago when our team plays a game that shows that they have moved past the numerous issues that were exposed last Friday. I'm optimistic that this is about 56 hours away.

Gillaspie was making clear he was a player even in July, before Duffy was traded, when he played for Duffy when injured. I remember listening to the Giants-Yankees broadcast on the radio in CT when they played, and John Sterling being impressed by him. He's seemed to have a knack for clutch plays since.
So I kid you not, me and a buddy of mine were talking before the game WC game about Tim Kawakami writing a piece that suggested how we don't know who the next unsung hero is gonna be. My buddy and I just laughed and said it's so obvious, both of us knowing the other was thinking of Gillaspie. We both said the guy most likely to have the winning hit was Gillespie, and lo it was!
