Random thoughts/questions... -

At 7-3, with a real possibility of 10 wins, seems Stanford should sneak back into the top 25 before it's all over. (In fact, there's a decent argument for that now, considering some of the 7-3 teams currently ranked.)
Will CM declare for the draft this year? If they go 10-3, it's hardly a terrible season, but wonder if the injury and lack of national lime light might make another year a good idea for him?Â
Anyone else at risk of declaring early this year?
Terrible defenses can make anyone look good I suppose, but it did seem the offense had fewer self-imposed mistakes. You have to think yesterday's team would have beaten Colorado (since even that game was a fumbled snap away), right?
Defense notwithstanding, Chryst just look better, right? Kept his head and eyes up under pressure, threw more accurately, didn't fumble, found the right play more often... Or was it just the terrible defense?
If Chryst grows into the job, or one of the young guys prove to be the real-deal, Stanford is sizing up to have a pretty strong returning team, considering all the young talent, right?

The Oregon defense was bad, but he also avoided any bad mistakes. Any passes off target were short and into the ground, and not to a defender. The success of the running game probably opened up the passing game more too. Overall, though, I think the lack of a passing game against OSU in retrospect was more just to ease Chryst into the role a little more before opening him up for this game.

Chryst has done a better job of avoiding turnovers.

Wins over kal and Rice won't elevate Stanford back into the polls, I don't think, but there could be a case made. At this point, I don't care about the polls--I care about the development of the offense for next year and some bowl respectability.
I'm ambivalent about CMac declaring. It's entirely up to him--more tape could help, but he's got an awful lot of highlights already.
Offense didn't make dumb mistakes--other than the delay of game (2x if you don't count Shaw saving Chryst's bacon early on iirc) and a couple of holding/false starts. The offense won the turnover battle, which is crucial. Chryst looked better, yes. And next year I hope the OL is more established coming into the season. The receivers should be good--the pieces are all there (almost like they were this season). The future is bright if Chryst keeps making meaningful improvements.

Teams ahead of us will lose. This week was odd because most of the carnage was in the top 10, and the bottom half of the top-25 didn't really see many losses. But that won't hold and you should expect a few losses a week for teams in the 15-25 range.

Well, I think it sucks that U$C is #15 in the AP at 7-3, we beat them and have the same record, but are not in the top 25. >:(

I never like seeing SC ranked ahead of us, but I think it's merited. Our game against them was early, when Max Browne was the QB and the team was reeling. Their other two losses were also in September, against Alabama and on the road in the last 16 seconds to Utah. Since then they have beaten Colorado and Washington.

I think it's too much to overinterpret much from the game, owing to the opposition, but I was encouraged by the relatively egalitarian distribution of the offense. McCaffrey accounted for just over a third of yards from scrimmage against Oregon, with guys like Arcega-Whiteside and Love also having big games.

Cameron Scarlett had more touches (though fewer yards) than Love. Three running backs with over 50 yards rushing. Rector and Shultz also figured prominently in the passing game.

Why is every thread talking about bowls and rankings? Anyway...
Stanford hasn't beaten any of the Top 3 teams in the Pac-12. U$C has beaten 2/3. So even if Stanford did beat U$C, that is taken away by getting blown out against the Washingtons in consecutive weeks. On top of that, the UCLA win is less and less valuable as the season has evolved.
Bad losses hurt a lot more when there are no great wins to go along with them. WSU is a case in point too. They haven't beaten a single ranked team either, and though are undefeated in conference, are 1-2 OOC, with a loss to an FCS team. They now get to test themselves against Colorado and Washington. Colorado gets WSU and Utah as its big tests.
My guess is Stanford will probably finish in the 15-20 range in the final rankings with a 10-3 record.
