It's too bad the UVA series got cancelled, Carly could have sold us out again:

On the upshot, if she had rooted for the Cavaliers, our odds of winning would have increased.

UDFG is that high
My guess on the UDFG is:
1) they were better than their record
2) they've recruited excellently
3) their coaches are long-tenured (I believe FPI says they give a boost to incumbent coaches).
And it's not as if UDFG have proven they *can't* reach those levels. Kelly can definitely do it. It's just that Kelly has shown no talents for consistency or elite performance on his upswings.

In ESPN's description of their "automated" preseason FPI model, it struck me that it was ultimately just another subjective ranking.Â

"... These four components interact and are assigned different weights depending on the team to produce preseason FPI."Â As soon as you start mucking around with the weightings arbitrarily for each team, you've admitted that your model produces crazy implausible results on its own and/or that you basically just fudge the results to keep angry UDFG fans reading.Â
Still, rankings are fun. I guess it ought to come as no surprise that a preseason model is non-scientific and just for fun.Â
CFB - gotta love it - no off-season! Rankings and recruiting stories keep us talking. Maybe that's why we're all still here at the Gas 'n Sip on a Saturday night, Dobbler... by choice!
