Thanks, CompSci!
While not an All-American (yet), Estella Moschkau has been wracking up accolades and honors too, chronicled over at the Fast Break Club.

Led her team to its first state title in history, Gatorade Wisconsin player of the year, etc. That's similar to the high school honors McPhee earned. Moschkau is 6'2" and listed as a wing, but I don't really know what position she will play for us.

They want me to improve my ball-handling and my shooting, all the fundamentals, Moschkau said. Hopefully defense will be key for me. I really like defense, so Im really hoping to bring that to their program.
With her emphasis on players who can contribute on defense, I think this quote is music to Tara's ears

The linked fbcrecruiting blog quotes Estella's coach as saying "she is able to play all five positions on the floor." And in another quote Estella herself says she "expects to play anything from power forward to shooting guard in college."

The woofing gods were listening. Dodson took an arm to the face and exited with a bloody nose. Certainly not as bad as last year's concussion issues, but our McD's AA once again didn't escape unscathed! East (with Dodson) beat West (with Williams) 80-74 in OT. Only tuned in to the last minute of OT, so not sure how either played, but a good sign that Williams was on the court during the final minute of OT, and Dodson was prominently featured by the commentators.Â

Dodson hardly played and was passive after the early blow to the nose
Williams looked good. Missed a lay up so will fit right in lol.Â
She shot a couple of threes missed but good to see her shoot them. Scored pointsceith a nice mid range jumper

Before the game, I joked that, if the Sun Bowl was considered a "meaningless game" such that the possibility of a career-impacting injury warranted non-participation, that description would seem to apply in spades to the McDonald's HS all-star games, as Anna Wilson could attest.
Apparently, that's not a joking matter after all. I'm fine with McDonald's picking high school All-American teams, but can think of no particularly good reason for playing the games involving those teams, while spending the past several months witnessing a very unfortunate example of a good reason NOT to. Hopefully, we don't have yet another such example now.

Someone posted Maya Dodson was in the boy's slam dunk competition. Anyone know if she can really dunk? That would be exciting to watch in a game.
On Friday UConn's game is scheduled to start at 9:30 pm Eastern Time. It will probably start after 10:00 pm. That is not exactly prime time on the East coast.

Dodson couldn't dunk in the contest but was in the competition because she can or close.
We are recruiting a 2019 who has dunked in games several times.Â
I think several of our Women Volleyballers can dunkÂ

The Girl's game is up on ESPN replay now. Hard to tell too much from these games. When you throw a bunch of kids together over two days and ask them to play in a system of some kind, who knows what will happen.
Kiana was 3/10, 0/5 from three point range, but 3/3 free throws. 9 points--the most anyone had on her team was 11, and they were 2/14 overall on three point shooting. She had three assists and 1 turnover, in 17 minutes. I think that is pretty good for a point guard who wasn't really playing point in the game. I was watching for defense but really could not tell much.
Maya was 0/1 in nine minutes, with a couple of rebounds and a couple of blocks--one of which reminded me of Bird's block at the end of the Texas game (at 1:53 left in the 1st quarter.)Â She was in the dunk contest and failed to make a dunk when the cameras were on her, but made two dunks earlier in the day to qualify for the contest.
As for Maya's injury, I did not catch when it happened but I saw her wiping her nose several times before she finally went out with 15 seconds left in the first quarter and and got her nose packed. I don't think it was too serious given that she played with it for a few possessions before exiting. Then she came back into the game toward the end of the third quarter. And she was back again at the end of the 4th quarter with no signs of injury. Then on the bench in overtime with both nostrils packed. It looked like an annoying nose bleed that wouldn't stop, but did not seem very serious given that she played off an on with it the whole game.
