Meanwhile, the dumpster fire continues at USC. After reports that USC wasn't going to pay market, FGCU HC Karl Smesko turns them down:

Hah! Confirmation, as I thought, that Kate turned down U SC rather than the other way around. She'll be a hero for life just for snubbing the evil empire.

I'm confused. Why didn't USC hire Wynn? She played, recruited, and Asst coached there before going to Long Beach.

Although U.SC ought to be a great job in a very fertile recruiting area, it sounds like the athletic department is very dysfunctional. Just down the road, UCLA just went 25-9 with a very dynamic team and signed a top 5 recruiting class (per Prospects Nation).
In contrast, Washington has been very supportive of women's basketball for years. Some may recall that Washington actually used to be a positive cashflow program in years gone by. Washington has a big in-state recruiting pool that a good dynamic coach with west coast ties ought to be able to tap into better than Neighbors did. Plus, this season, they sold out the Stanford game at Hec Ed, and Seattle is hosting the Pac-12 tournament for the foreseeable future.

Here's a link to the Swish Appeal article about the U.SC non-hiring that confirms that AD Lynn Swann delayed the hiring search...because he was at the Masters.Â
Click through to see the visual representation of the dumpster fire - it's spot on and hilariously accurate.

The simple truth is USC struggles to get 1,000 to games.  43 days open. Doubt the Masters played a brobdingnagian role. Lack of fans played far bigger

Do you see any conference team losing to Under Stanford Control (again) next season? What a mess.

With a solid coach U$C could beat a lot of teams. With no coach this past season, they beat OSU by 20 @OSU.

LOL was she
that bad? Just always seemed like she was brilliant or meh on any given day.
At this point, I just don't see what they have to offer potential players or a coach, given how horribly this has played out.

Interesting that the story says Trakh left USC for personal reasons the first time. It makes hiring him for a second stint sound better than if he'd been fired.
Wasn't the perception at the time that he was being forced out, though?

Trakh's contract was up and U.SC was only offering a 1 year extension. At that time all 3 assistant coaches left. The Wynns to Long Beach and Felton to Oregon. There was no way he could get reliable assistants on a 1 year deal, so he left. In a way you could say he was forced out.

The whole thing sorta plays out as a WBB soap opera, especially the Wynn/USC/Trakh/Brea-Olinda connections.

Both Moore sisters are transferring. The Frosh from USC and the jr from Louisville.
Think about rankings then consider this. Louisville recruiting has been highly ranked. They have signed 10 last two years 6 have now transferred
Baylor signed 5 last year 4 have now transferred

Articles from 2009:Â
Cynthia Cooper? 3/15/09
Morning Buzz 4/2/09
states that Trakh was expected to be fired, with a link that no longer works, but probably was to one of the two articles:

Trakh 'Resigns'Â 4/8/09Â (Quotes in their title)Â Press release about his departure
And, from today:

And, as I write this, Trakh's bio at USC has not been updated since 2008

Years ago we were in LA visiting relatives and I wanted to take my daughter, who was then a promising middle school player, to see Nicole Powell play against the Lady Toejams. I dutifully ordered tickets online, left extra early to avoid any parking jams, and we came in to an arena that had a crowd of no more than 100 people. And the ushers hassled us when we tried to move closer to the court!
