wBB: Wilson might not be eligible for a 5th year - TheFarm07 - 04-24-2017

Unfortunately, we barely saw much of her during last season, but if the Yale game was any indication, then it would be great to see a guard rotation of Sniezek, Wilson and Williams for the next couple years:

The article does mention that,
Quote:Stanford head coach Tara VanDerveer is pessimistic that Wilson will get the year back, saying the rule “seems rigid.”

I am not sure of the precedents set on the matter, but a reading of the rule seems like a tough case for Wilson.
Nothing in the rule quite describes her situation, but there is this,
Quote:12.8.4.3.5 Reinjury in Second Half of Season. A student-athlete who suffers an injury in the first half of the season that concludes with the NCAA championship or who suffers an injury after the first day of classes in his or her senior year of high school, attempts to return to competition during the second half of that season and then is unable to participate further as a result of aggravating the original injury does not qualify for the hardship waiver.

Now Wilson apparently did not aggravate the original injury so much as she went from one injury (concussion) to a separate one (foot/ankle). But by the spirit of that paragraph, I would think her case is a long shot.

Yes, I agree with CTCard. The medical redshirt rule requires that the season-ending injury must occur in the first half of the season and must prevent the player from competing for the rest of the season. Anyone who appears in a game in the second half of the season isn't eligible. Tough break, but that's the rule.
