Baseball All Conference Academic - CTcard - 05-30-2017

The conference just named the Pac 12 All Academic baseball teams.

I'd say congratulations are in order to Oregon State. Not only do they have the current #1 team in the nation, with a truly amazing 49-4 record, but they also topped the All Academic team with three players on the first team (most) and three on the second team (tied for most with Stanford).

Stanford had 1 first teamer (Andrew Summerville), three second teamers (Quinn Brodey, Tyler Thorne, Matt Winaker).
Stanford also had nine others receive honorable mention.

Congrats to all. If I'm not mistaken, 9 still requires everyone to be at least one quarter ahead of schedule by junior(?) year, which makes the Stanford students' accomplishments even more impressive. Sure, AP test results give you a head start, but you've still got to put in the hours to stay ahead.

It's been over 10 years since I graduated so policies may have changed but back then Stanford didn't give any credit for AP courses taken in high school. I believe in some subjects high AP scores allowed freshmen to place into a higher level course but that wouldn't really help baseball players "get ahead" in terms of accruing credits towards a degree. All that is to say that the work being done by our players is indeed impressive.

I still shake my head in admiration of John Mayberry Jr., who left after three years after being drafted, then came back for one quarter (I assume fall, but maybe winter?) and graduated with his class.
