So How Important Is This Week`s Game Against SDSU? For SDSU, Monumental - AncientCityIndian - 09-14-2017

The above San Diego Union Tribune preview is quite good and to the point.  The salient points are as follows:

SDSU has not defeated a ranked team from a power 5 conference in over 30 years.
They are asking fans to be dressed all in black matching their uniforms to emphasize the game`s importance.
They are distressingly aware of our problems on the DL.
They are aware that we will come into Qualcomm in a very bad mood with something to prove and a large chip on our shoulder.
They know they have enough talent to win if they outplay us despite the fact we have a better team on paper.

It`s the best read I have seen about Saturday`s game thus far and worth the effort.

Good article, thanks. Having said that the emotional angle never did a whole lot for me. It may give one team an edge for a couple of minutes then the game settles in and the team that executes better wins.

I didn't like the matchup last week.  I do like this one.

SC and SDSU are in such different universes as opponents it's hard for me to inherently take seriously the idea that weaknesses in the context of playing SC (which have, what, a top-five pick at QB and big-time running backs and a brobdingnagian offensive line...) are weaknesses in the context of playing SDSU (whose QB rarely passes against inferior opponents, let alone good ones).

The gulf strikes me as pretty big. While we don't know how good Stanford really is, SDSU hasn't really been dominating its opponents on a per-play basis. (Only +.7 against UC Davis and +.3 against ASU). Stanford is definitely much better than UC Davis and (we hope) better than ASU too. So, I dunno, Stanford should win, as I think the columnist eventually acknowledges.

The article seems to agree with some of the things we have been saying on this board. Last week may not have a case of us playing badly, but a case of an outstanding opponent playing very well.
SDSU is a good team, but they are certainly no U$C.
We should win this game, but that doesn't necessarily mean we will.

This makes me fee old - Duck Tears - 09-15-2017

"There are parents of current SDSU players who were in diapers in 1981."

I had to read this line a few times, just to let it sink in.
