Scout Team Honors - SamuelMcF - 10-17-2017

I LOVE that we have honors for scout team players every week - keeps everyone hungry. On offense this week the honor went to Casey Tucker, who, as some may recall, was our starting RT in the Rose Bowl 2 years ago.

...does anyone know literally anything about this? How does a guy like that completely fall off the 2-deep? Did he punch Mike Bloomgren or something?

It sounds like Casey Tucker is redshirting as he played as a true frosh. The speculation is that we he will graduate and be eligible to transfer and play right away. I am not sure why Stanford would still want him on the team if he isn't going to play and is transferring so I am hopeful that the speculation is wrong and that he will play and possibly start next year for Stanford.

Even if plan is to transfer, helpful to have him on scout team making our D better.  Plus he stays in shape.  So as long as attitudes are positive a possible Win Win.

On the other hand easy to become a distraction.  So hard to discern from the outside

With the glut of tackles we had coming in (Bright and Hall returning, Hamilton coming off his redshirt, and Little and Sarell coming in and expected to play as true fresh), Tucker was offered an opportunity to move over to guard and compete with Fanaika to be the second guard (Herbig was also returning).  Tucker lost the battle, and when Little emerged and shifted Bright to Guard, Tucker really didn’t figure to be a big contributor to the OL, and fell off the two-deep.  It wasn’t worth having him use up a year of eligibility just to play spot duty so he was given a chance to redshirt and graduate transfer next year.

By "graduate transfer" you mean he will graduate Stanford this year,  transfer to and take graduate courses at a different University next year while at the same time utilizing a final year eligibility to also play football?
If my understanding above is correct then that is a win-win for everybody involved, including Stanford's current team.
I was formerly a University of San Francisco basketball season ticket holder and recall two players graduating and then using a final year of eligibility to play elsewhere. Point guard Cody Doolin went on to play a year at  UNLV and forward Marc Tollefsen played his final year at the University of Arizona.

It’s up to him and the coaching staff to decide, but I think that’s what is going to happen.  Tucker will have a chance to start elsewhere, will have gotten his degree from Stanford and will have a chance to go to graduate school, so yes, a win for everyone.

I've asked this a couple of times before and never gotten an answer but I'm going to try again.
Anyone know what Davis Mills's status is? Is he playing on the scout team? I had heard that the knee injury he suffered in high school was still bothering him and he wasn't practicing. Is this still true?
Thanks for any information.

I spotted Mills on the sideline in my full-view of the Oregon game last night.  He was completely dressed in uniform, so it seems safe to say he is healthy, because I also spotted Osiris St. Brown, who was in sweats, suggesting he is recovering from an injury.  And while on the topic, the FSI broadcast closed the game with a shot of the team entering the field, and man is Dalyn Wade-Perry (who was in uniform) a very big dude.

DWP will definitely be a spring interest for all of us as we try to discern the pace of his progression, and what this means for the future of our run defense.

Thanks. I think a lot of us have Mills pegged as a future star (at least I do), so it's good to hear he looks healthy.
