This site's value will be determined by the degree to which Michigan, Ohio State, and Michigan State contain Saquon Barkley over the next three weeks.

That said, if Stanford is making this effort to push Love to win the H trophy, Stanford's PR staff better put the full-court press on next week to all sports media and maybe even a few non-sports media outlets, to promote the piss out of the 9pm ET Thursday night game at Oregon State.

Northwestern had him nearly completely bottled up and all 3 of those schools are at least half a yard per carry better as run defenses. I wouldn't be surprised if he has a pretty brutal stretch coming up.

Although knowing our luck he'll disappear from the radar and suddenly it'll be "McSorley for Voldemort!"

I don't understand why Barkley is getting more attention than Baker Mayfield.  Mayfield is having a good year and has been a big name for a few years.  Love versus Barkley is an easy comparison in favor of Love, but harder to compare Love to a QB as it is apples and oranges.

Re: Love Heism@n Campaign launched - Hank 91 - 10-17-2017

The last three robberies (I will allow Newton's win over junior Andrew Luck, but not RG3 over senior Luck) have left me rather jaded with respect to the Downtown Athletic Club and those who vote for the trophy. The clearest sign of corruption is the flexibility of the criteria to fit the candidate of choice. (McCaffrey didn't win because he didn't score touchdowns, but now it doesn't matter that Barkley doesn't score touchdowns.) Anyway, I believe that Love has to finish with historic numbers in order to have a chance. He'll probably need more than 2400 yards. Also, he'll need a great game against Notre Dame. Putting up big numbers against a marquee team on a weekend with only a handful of games will do wonders for his cause.

It's possible, but it's still a long shot.

As objective as you can possibly be, let's have everyone give their Top 4 H trophy candidates right now, and why.  I'll start:

1. Baker Mayfield - The dude is a dynamo, incredibly tough, and a relentless competitor.  Even in ISU loss, he was great.
2. Bryce Love - He's just doing thing literally nobody else can do and has produced against everyone to date.
3. Saquon Barkley - Though he is the most multi-talented RB at his size that I've seen in a long time, his production isn't there.
4. J.T. Barrett - Has like 21 TDs and 1 INT. Loss to Mayfield's OU makes him longer shot than Love to win, IMO.

Some are talking up Frosh RB Jonathan Taylor of Wisconsin now, but True Frosh don't win the Voldemort, and I question the competition Wisconsin has faced.

Note: If Love continues to put up his insane 10 YPC through a whole season, and even gets near Barry Sanders' singe season yardage record - a major measuring stick for greatness among football fans - he would be my #1, and I think he would win the trophy.

And why not Lamar Jackson? His stats are on par or better than last year when he won it at first glance.

I agree with you here, but Louisville just lost to BC...at home. They are a shaky 4-3, so unless they run the table I have to think he's out of the running.

hats off to the site's creators.  Well executed and smartly conceived.

Saquon Barkley is 21st in rushing yards this season.

He's a tough one.  More so than any other position, the team really must win for the QB to have a shot at the H trophy.  Louisville went 9-3 the year Jackson won the trophy, which is what RG III did the year he stole it from Luck.  But you must beat a top team to win the trophy, like Louisville beat Top 10 Florida State in 2016, and Baylor beat Oklahoma in 2011 (with that RG III game winning TD pass). This year Louisville is 4-3, and though they could conceivably end up 9-3 again, they have lost to Clemson and NC State, and Florida State won't be ranked in the Top 25 when they play this weekend, so UL won't beat a Top 25 team this year.

Re: Love Heism@n Campaign launched - DC 86 - 10-17-2017

Actual betting markets offer a much more accurate picture of the H-trophy race than television pundits and online bloggers.

At Bovada (a major online sports betting site): Love and Barkley are co-favorites, both currently offered at 1.4-1. Three weeks ago Barkley was listed at 1.75-1 and Love was 33-1, and two weeks ago Barkley was listed at 1.25-1 while Love was still available at 14-1.

At the Westgate (formerly Las Vegas Hilton) "super book" - a major operation which offers the highest limits on proposition bets such as the H-trophy: the favorite is Love at 1.4-1 while Barkley is behind at 1.6-1.

At Paddy Power (a brobdingnagian European sports book): Barkley listed at 1.5-1 and Love next at 2-1.

Most other casino and online betting parlors currency mirror these odds.

Over the last decade the final betting odds have been extremely accurate in predicting the winner. Much will change between now and mid-December but we are being overly pessimistic if we are judging Love's chances based on TV network, radio sports talk and online punditry; actual money being wagered indicates that Love is riding a wave of momentum and is a serious contender.

Does the fact that he hails from Wake Forest, NC help win over some of the East Coast and SEC voters? (apologies if this has already been brought up in another thread...)

Difficult to quantify, but unlikely. And Andrew Luck hailing from Houston didn't seem to be a factor in his efforts.
