2018 WRs - OutsiderFan - 10-20-2017

As there is no game this week, and Stanford appears out of the playoff hunt, my mind has drifted to the next best chance to get into the CFP, in 2018, and thoughts about Stanford's team might look like then.

I keep coming back to WR as the position Stanford may take a tremendous step forward.  Look at this possible depth chart:

JJAW - Irwin - Stewart - Wedington all return.

Then you get Osiris St. Brown and Simi Fehoko (who is a tremendous deep threat), plus at minimum Michael Wilson (who looks really talented) , and possibly Amon Ra St. Brown, the #1 WR recruit in 2018.

Even if the younger St. Brown doesn't sign with Stanford, this would have to be the deepest and most talented WR corps Stanford has ever had.  Got to give Shaw and staff a lot of credit for building depth at the skill positions that have been historically thin at Stanford.

Now just need to do it with the DL and Stanford will be a national championship contender.

And we might think of Parkinson as a WR.  He's likely to be a flexed-out TE a la Coby Fleener.  And Kaden Smith might be a genuine hybrid.

Agree, too, that Fehoko and Wilson could be very good

I hope that the prospect of a championship run will entice Love to stay for his senior year.

JJAW is such a talent that evaluating the NFL this year seems like a real possibility for him.  He may not return.  His skills in grabbing balls in traffic while well covered and coming down with a catch are things you can't teach.

I'd be skeptical that Fehoko can make a contribution in 2018. How many mission returnees hit the ground running? He'll redshirt, is my bet.

loss of CBs will hurt too.  The stars have to align for us to make it to the CFP

Both Holder and Meeks will have eligibility in 2018. I have no idea whether they'll leave or not, but seems unsound to presume they'll leave.

The real question, of course, is whether Phillips will leave. If he does, the line will be just as porous next year.

JJAW is a very good college player.  I don't know if he's an NFL player.  He's certainly not a high round pick.  He's pretty much Devon Cajuste with even better hands.
