Nw-Iowa. ESPN. Barkley - lex24 - 10-21-2017

Announcers talk about Barkley. “No question “ he’s the    front runner. They talk about his explosiveness that he’s a “big play waiting to happen”. No one finishes like him

All I can do is shake my head. I’d add that Love is not a “big play waiting to happen.”  Cause it’s happens every flipping week. Over and over.

Course I’d also like to throw some numbers at them:

Barkley. 649 6.4. From LOS. 1044 8.0

Love. 1387. 10.3. 4 catches for 19. 1404 LOS.

And then there is the schedule to date. PSU has played nobody. That changes starting this week.

Yeah, there is no question as to who the front runner SHOULD be. The next three weeks may decide it.

Those announcers were poor.  At the end of the game NW had the ball with it tied . . . they played out the clock as the announcers expressed their shock.  The fact that the line was porous all day, there was high wind, and the QB had made some questionable throws obviously did not occur to them.

Footnote:  NW won in OT as the announcers complimented the coach as being "the one person who can make the decision"

Re: Nw-Iowa. ESPN. Barkley - lex24 - 10-21-2017

Very similar situation in Texas-OSU game. 10-10. OSU ball on about their own 15. 1:10 left Texas has all three time outs. OSU gets a first down run and then just keeps running. Announcers stunned. I thought- what else should they do. It’s a defensive game. Their o-line is banged up. Burn as much clock as possible and play for OT.  As it is Texas got it with about 30 left. Texas used TO. Didn’t move it

OT- OSU FG. They win when Texas QB makes a horrible decision and floats a pass in EZ for an INT.

Iowa lost when wide open receiver drops an easy fourth down pass. He had the first down if he makes the catch. Very simple pitch and catch.  Throw it 100 times to him he catches that pass 99 times.

Felt bad for both kids.

The average rushing defense ranking of the two teams is very close on the surface.  The average Rush D rank of Penn State's seven opponents is #61.5 (out of 128 FBS schools).  The average Rush D rank of Stanford's six opponents is #62.3.  Of course, Love has outrushed Barkley by 90 yards per game.  Stanford is #15 in the country in rushing offense at 258.7 ypg and Penn State is #65 at 165.0 ypg, meaning that Stanford has had 93 ypg greater impact on the rushing defenses it faces than penn state.  In other words, if we inflicted Stanford's rush against Penn State's opponents, their average rank wouldn't be 61.5, Penn State's opponents rushing defense average would be about #118.

As for strength of schedule, Stanford's 2017 football schedule is ranked #6 by teamrankings.com.  Penn State's is #22.

If it isn't wildly obvious, I think Bryce Love is a substantially better back thank Barkley.

Of course, it will all come out in the wash.  Here's their remaining schedules:

Penn State (Michigan, Ohio State, Michigan St, Rutgers, Nebraska, Maryland)

Stanford (Oregon State, Washington, Washington State, C.al, Noter Dame)

Not to mention with big plays, those over 30 yards, Love leads 18 to 5: http://www.cfbstats.com/2017/leader/national/player/split01/category31/sort03.html
