So good and so young.Â

I have had an uneasy feeling about Oregon for at least the last year. I think they will be our principle competition for some time, and a greater threat to us long term than UCLA or anyone else. Not to say that ASU and OSU and a lot of other teams can't beat us--just that the quality of Oregon's recruits really should be able to match up with us, and they have one of the three best coaches in the Pac 12. Scary.

And more scary as I somehow missed that Bando is still at Oregon, now a Sr.
Lexi Bando was an excellent three point shooter, making 76 at 48%. Bando averaged 10 points per game.

Well, I will go out on a limb and say they should have been favored to win the Pac 12 and not UCLA. I have to believe that Kelly Graves will out coach Cori Close and he has the talent to beat them.Â
The question then is whether Tara can bring her youngsters along fast enough to compete with this equally young team. I suppose Oregon could be inconsistent due to its youth as we will be. It should make for one heck of a Pac 12 tournament happening after Oregon and Stanford have a whole season to bring their youth along.

I thought we would get some relief with Bando graduating, but you are telling me Oregon kept essentially all of its critical players from last year and with a year of experience and confidence under their belt, punctuated by a run to the Elite 8, where they upset two top seeds (Duke and Maryland)? And then Bando is still around, while we lost Karlie to graduation?
I agree, the Ducks should be up there with us and UCLA as the three favorites to win the conference.

Well, as Bob describes it in his blog, it is actually worse than that. Not only are they keeping all their starters, but they have an entering class with three top international recruits, including the #1 international recruit, a 6'4" post from Germany. They are also getting Erin Boley from N otre Dame--but not to worry, she has to sit out this year. (Que the sarcasm. Erin Boley will have three years of eligibility when she plays next year so we will be seeing her for many years. For some reason she is showing up on their roster this year. Bob, are we sure she has to sit?) Ruthy Hebard is only a sophomore, as are McGwire, Campisano, and Ionescu--all three we discussed here on this board as great potential recruits. Add Maite Cazorla from Spain and this is beginning to look like an international all star team. We could face a starting lineup next year of Hebard, Boley, Ionescu, Cazorla, and McGwire/Sabally. Great size inside, sure ball handling and three point shooting outside, and a versatile superstar wing. Yikes.
Washington State is the other team that has gone deep into international recruiting. And we have started to do so for the first time. Bob, is the international game just getting better, or is there some other reason that international women are becoming so much more prominent in American college WBB?

Boley will sit. She is on the roster because she is on the team and can practice. Nothing unusual about that.
Don't have an idea why So many international.Â
Slocum is still an unknown if eligible. Same with the Nebraska transfer at ND.Â

I am predicting a lot of great games between our two teams over the next few years with probably the regular season and tournament title on the line plus a top seed in the NCAA tournament too.
They will be great, but we are not exactly showing up to these match-ups empty-handed either. Tara has plenty of options at her disposal as well. This rivalry I think will be great for us and the conference as we prepare for postseason play.
