Ahead of Southern Cal, who dropped 10 spots in latest polls - haha!
No, it doesn't mean anything, but pretty sweet for Stanford to be ranked ahead of both teams it lost to earlier in the season!
I honestly don't know how the voters can have Washington ahead of Virginia Tech at this point.

At this point, the only value of the rankings is in recruiting material. But yeah, it's still nice.
Notre Dame looks scary though.

I think it is quite clear that neither USC or SDSU are anywhere near the teams that they were in weeks 2 and 3. This is mostly attributable to injuries, but also sometimes teams just regress, or go into a funk. USC often does this when they realize they aren't going to the national championship. Conversely, I think it is somewhat clear that Stanford is playing better than they were back then. Nice (but unexpected) that the polls actually acknowledge the changes.

Me either, especially in light of the UW injuries. Maybe it will help if we beat them :).

As a comparison, I guess the question is why pro-Va Tech?
UW has six blow out wins and one 6 point loss. The wins weren't over good teams, probably call it four bad teams and two middling; the latter are Cal and Fresno who looks to be in charge of the MW-West (ahead of SDSU).
Va Tech has four blow out wins over bad teams, a comfortable win over weak to middling BC, a 14 point loss against a good team, and a close win over okay WVU.
So, Va Tech has a better individual win, but really not much there to choose either way.Â

True as far as it goes. That is why I cited the UW injuries. They have lost three important starters for the year, as I understand it. So the team right now is probably not as good as their record would indicate. VT doesn't have the same issue, so I would rate VT higher, all else being basically equal.

Well, I don't follow Va Tech closely enough to really know their injury status. VT Scoop seems to list a ton of WRs injured.

Doesn't seem as bad as UW overall.
