Love getting some East Coast love from a surprising source. - cardcrimson - 10-23-2017

Looking for an update of Love's injury, I stumbled upon this:

Great piece on Bryce.

Superb!

I was checking out CMac's NFL stats today, and it was obvious that the next level was a brobdingnagian step even for the greatest of the NCAAF greatest players.  Bryce is very special, but when he gets to the next level he is not going to be challenging players who will be beginning their 40+ years of apres-football, but players who are almost all as good as he is at their positions.  The holes will be smaller and close earlier and the second level players will be bigger and smarter than the average NCAAF defensive starter.

We all love our great runner-up Voldemort players, but when they move to the next level, that is another thing, entirely.

These sorts of articles with the GIFs are great. Thanks for posting.

More importantly, he won't be much faster than every DB out there. I think that will be the most difficult adjustment. Now, he knows if he gets to the second level clean, he won't be caught. I don't think that will be true in the NFL.

I'm curious what the author meant by this statement about the offensive line:

Quote:While the unit isn’t “talented”

I mean, these aren't a bunch of nobodies with no talent and no recruiting profile.  Little was the top OL recruit in the country last year.  The second highest OL recruit in the country last year is a back-up.  Yes, the guys work hard and yes they are well-coached.  But there is more than trivial raw talent on that line.  Little and Hebrig will likely play in the NFL, barring injury, and I suspect Bright will be drafted; you don't get there without talent.

I doubt much thought went into that statement, but a few weeks ago I was worried that individual ability might be a limiting factor for this OL. That's a worry I am glad to see appears to have been wrong.

But, we do have the following recruiting rankings for our starters (recruiting ratings from 247sports)
LT - Little, 5 star recruit. Obvious talent but a true frosh.
LG - Bright, 3 star/#74 OT, but a fifth year senior
C - Burkett, 3 star/#41 OG
RG - Herbig, 3 star/#45 OG
RT - Hall, 3 star/#53 OT

All perfectly respectable, but the only wow-recruit is a true frosh.

Of course it's relatively ridiculous to base one's opinion on the talent of juniors through 5th year seniors on high school recruiting rankings, particularly for OL. But that doesn't mean some don't do it.

Maybe a little more reasonable justification is to point out that this board itself has had some questions about athleticism at several OL positions.

But that's the best I can do. Without more explanation it just seems like a kind-of-default statement writers like to make about Stanford players.

Also the 3-star starters competed against and are starting over at least 2 upper-classmen 4-star recruits.
