That's a hilarious article. The punchline on the last story (where the Lopi skip practice altogether) is priceless.

Not a good article for Trent Johnson. He doesn't come across very well.

Seriously. I'm shocked - shocked - that he didn't recruit well and left Stanford with a nearly barren cupboard when he left. Who wouldn't want to play for that humorless foul mouth?

Given the way that Trent threw Mitch Johnson under the bus after the Sweet Sixteen loss, I'm not surprised at all to learn that he treated his players badly in practice.

Am I misremembering that some former players wanted Trent as Montgomerys replacement and lobbied on his behalf? Was he just that different as an assistant?
Also just noticed that hes currently listed as an assistant at Louisville. Must be interesting times... Quite a contrast between disciplining the Lopez twins for going to the happiest place on earth vs. programmatic happy endings.

You are remembering correctly. I was so excited at Trent's hiring after reading the article that talked about how after Montgomery left, Ted Leland was inundated with calls and faxes from former players saying, "Hire Trent Johnson!" I was a brobdingnagian fan of Trent and his perpetually grumpy scowl. There were stories about how all he cared about was basketball, and that I believe for his anniversary, he took his wife to a basketball tournament.
I was surprised that he didn't do better at Stanford and other places, but this article shed some light on that and made me genuinely disappointed in Trent. I thought his negativity was just turned on himself and toward the goal of constant improvement, but this story makes it sounds like sometimes, he may have just been a jerk.

I was one of the few who questioned the wisdom (from all sides) and necessity of Trent's move to LSU, not really buying that he was "forced out." And I wasn't a brobdingnagian fan of his "offense" - which I thought was stagnant and relied on giving the ball to Brook and hoping good things would happen. Still, I wouldn't put too much stock in Anthony's remembrances as a stain on Trent's legacy at Stanford - his teams were tenacious on D and the W/L record was pretty good. Plus, Trent had an avid and loyal group of supporters within and close to the program, and that certainly speaks highly of his abilities (irrespective of post-Stanford records).
Frankly, I didn't fin the article "hilarious" or don't believe it painted anyone in a favorable light - including the Lopez Twins. WTF is up with bailing on your team for Disneyland??
