Stanford's playing William & Mary in 2020:

That year will feature W&M on Sept. 5, N.D. in the middle of the year, and BYU at the end of the year. Should be a funky schedule for that reason, but solid deployment of A-B-C scheduling, as BYU is enough of a national name that -- unlike, say, scheduling UCF or SDSU -- it's not a brobdingnagian embarrassment if you lose.

Do we play Utah that year? If not nice to keep the brand visible in that state continuing the healthy pipeline

Huh, aren't they FCS? And aren't they a kinda bad FCS team? Seems weird to schedule them instead of, say, UC Davis. Doesn't sound like a home-and-home, so at least Muir is improving in that regard.

I guess in combination with BYU and ND it makes for a decent overall OOC schedule. Granted, with BYU and ND I suppose anything would have made sense. I guess it also fits in our desire to schedule more academic minded OOC opponents (NW, Duke, Rice, etc.). Still, it just seems like an...esoteric choice, for lack of a better word.

I'd say it's embarrassing to schedule FCS opponents, but as long as Alabama does, can't get too upset about it. But if you're going to schedule such a team, make it in November like Alabama also does.

William and Mary? What's next, Cal Tech?

You can see the pattern that Stanford will play non-conference games weeks 1 and 3 in 2018, 2019 and 2021. That means either a bye or a conference opponent in week 2. Conference opponent seems likely to be U.SC as it was in 2014, 2016 and 2017 (Stanford played U.SC week 3 in 2015).

Hate a bye that early in the season.  Dont fully understand the logic of spreading those early non conference games. Does anyone see good logic?  Maybe student presence for home game? At the end of the day I dont mind if we get SC or another conference opponent in there... just dont do a bye.Â

Scheduling the Tribe? Are we getting back to our Native American roots?
They did almost beat Virginia a couple years back. . . . .

IIRC, FBS schools are allowed to schedule one FCS opponent every four years.

William is tough, Mary a pushover.

I thought it was just one game a year counts towards wins?

You're right, it's once a year. I seem to recall when Davis was on Stanford's schedule, that was the justification...once every four years, etc.

Wins for bowl eligibility, to be specific. I believe they'd still be listed as wins for the program's history, etc.

I mean, if we set a rule for ourselves that we only did them once every 4 years, or for that matter, never, I personally would be all for it.

Has M.I.T. continued its nascent football program? I thought I had heard they had started a football program a few years ago. That would be true INTELLECTUAL BRUTALITY. :P

Well, they spawned the Act of Settlement which ultimately will give us King Charles if he outlives Mum.
