A little trivia before football - BobK - 10-26-2017

Who was OJ Simpson's HS QB?
Yes he is a known personality

Name the two switch hitters with a season where they had 100 hits from each side of the plate ?

Who had 297 three hit games but only one three strikeout game in his career ?

Re: A little trivia before football - Hurlburt88 - 10-26-2017

Is Mickey Mantle one of those two switch hitters?

Broadcaster Joe Angel was Simpson's QB. My husband's mom went to school with them both at Galileo. The funny thing is, years later she remembered Joe, but not OJ.

Re: A little trivia before football - BobK - 10-26-2017

Not Mantle.

Wow former Giant current Oriole broadcaster Joe Angel.
Hey welcome hayaka

Re: A little trivia before football - donkey687 - 10-26-2017

Tony Gwynn on the three hit question

Re: A little trivia before football - BobK - 10-26-2017

Tony Gwynn is right on the 3  hit.

The switch hitters were in back to back seasons around 35 years ago

Re: A little trivia before football - Hurlburt88 - 10-26-2017

Surprised one is not The Mick.

Guessing again...is Tim Raines one?

Re: A little trivia before football - Phogge - 10-26-2017

Angel might have been the soph/frosh QB when OJ was a soph. His junior year we destroyed them and Angel was not the QB. In his senior when most of SI's best players were in college and I think Angel was a lineman. Who was the SF HS POTY when OJ was a senior?

Re: A little trivia before football - terry - 10-26-2017

Was one of the switch hitters Willie McGee?

One of them has to be Pete Rose, doesn't it?  Let's see who else was a switch hitter. Carew batted left. Brett, Gwynn and Boggs batted left.  I think that Molitor batted left. Did Al Oliver switch hit?

Willie Wilson and Gary Templeton?  if so, Templeton might need an asterisk as he batted RH against RHP to get to a 100 (iirc)

who are the two switchhitters (with say more than 1000 ABs) to hit over .300 from both sides?

Re: A little trivia before football - BobK - 10-26-2017

Ya just can't get anything past slide.
Plus I didn't know about the fact Templeton was batting right at the end

SF POTY  Dwight Tucker ?

I met Willie McGee's daughter two nights ago at dinner.  Very charming lady, very fond of dear old dad.

Re: A little trivia before football - Phogge - 10-26-2017

SF Player of the Year... Nate Kirtman.

Re: A little trivia before football - BobK - 10-26-2017

Stanford    I blew that

Re: A little trivia before football - qwerty49 - 10-26-2017

I had Templeton and the RH batting but I thought the 2nd one was Herr.

The real trivia about Templeton was that in one of the drought years, shortly after he had been traded away from the Padres,  City of San Diego put in brobdingnagian residential water use restrictions—and it became known that Templeton was the largest single residential water user in the district. He had a brobdingnagian spread in eastern Poway, which is basically in the desert, and he pretty much turned it into a rain forest.

Not only was he the single largest water user, he used 50% more than number two.  He was using over 12,000 gallons per day, twice as much as a car wash.
