MBB vs Northeastern, 3pm PT Friday - burger - 11-17-2017

Will it be better than the last game?  Or even worse?  Will we even have 5 healthy players to suit up?  Stay tuned.

Decent start.  Travis a beast.  Davis looking quick.  Three freshmen started

Playing three guards simultaneously.  White, Davis, and Cartwright

Humphrey with two threes and white with a very deep three

If Northeastern shot anywhere near 50% from 3pt they'd be winning by double digits. 7 for 27. I'm not sure if this is our gameplan, but against any team with decent shooters allowing this many clean 3pt looks is a recipe for disaster.

Again we're collapsing. A 19-point lead down to 7 in the span of about 4 minutes.

3pt by White ends a 14-1 Northeastern run...

Stanford wins 73-59.  ;D

Team shot 50% from the field and 54% behind the arc.  Our 73.3% on free throws needs improvement (by Travis and Davis).  Humphrey and White each had 17 pts, Travis had 16 pts, and Davis had 10 pts.  Davis had 5 turnovers and 4 fouls.  No other players were in foul trouble.

We didn't need Pickens tonight, but any word if he's going to be ready for Monday's showdown against UNC? We need all the firepower we can muster to have a chance for the upset

Still in a boot (along with pretty much everybody else at that end of the bench  ??? ), but at least there didn’t appear to be any crutches today, so there’s that...

Both our men's and women's teams had similar performances last night - come out strong, build a lead, then watch it (almost) evaporate. Despite the game being closer than it should have been, I was pretty encouraged by what I saw. White was really solid and frankly he's easily our best freshman guard since Chasson Randle. Cartwright seemed pretty hungry to earn his way back into the starting lineup, and Humphreys had a couple of great 3 pointers. If memory serves, when Northeastern went on that long run, we were playing a zone defense and they started dropping three after three after three. It seemed like once we switched back to man the ship got steadier. Davis also looked improved from the past two games. He's still making some silly mistakes, but given that we're starting three freshmen, it's to be expected. Still, all things considered, I thought the team showed some flashes of greatness to build from, and really seemed to get the message after the EWU loss. Random observation: I don't remember whether Travis ever came out of the game, but according to the box score, he played all 40 minutes. Talk about a beast!

White & Davis together can be both exciting & solid long-term.  I am very impressed by White's long-range shooting in particular.Â
