Are you ready for some BASEBALL???
"
No. 2 Stanford (38-6, 17-4 Pac-12 Conference) at No. 4 Oregon State (36-6-1, 14-6-1)
What’s at stake for Stanford: A chance to all but put the Pac-12 title out of reach. The Cardinal can’t this weekend clinch the championship, but a series win would go a long way to wrapping up their first conference title since 2004. Stanford’s spot as a top-eight seed is secure already, but any hope of snatching the top overall seed away from Florida requires a series win at Oregon State.
What’s at stake for Oregon State: First place in the Pac-12. Oregon State is aiming for back-to-back Pac-12 titles for the third time under coach Pat Casey. A sweep this weekend would put the Beavers back in first place with two weekends left in the season. Winning two of three games would leave them in second place but would turn this race into a six-game sprint and solidify the Beavers as a top-eight seed. Oregon State has history on its side, as it’s won this series seven straight years, including five sweeps."

Weekend Opponent, No. 3 Oregon State
• The Cardinal owns a 41-42-0 (.494) all-time record against the Beavers, with the series dating to 1964. Last season, Oregon State swept Stanford, 3-0, at Sunken Diamond March 31-April 2.
• Oregon State enters the weekend having won 12-of-14, most recently beating Oregon, 10-0, on Tuesday after a 2-0-1 series win at Washington State this past weekend.
• The Beavers lead the Pac-12 in batting average (.321), runs (327) and total bases (746).
Where We Stand

• The Cardinal checks in at No. 2 in the D1 Baseball top-25 poll for the sixth week in a row. The Cardinal also ranks first or second in the Baseball America (2), Collegiate Baseball Newspaper (1), NCBWA (1) and Perfect Game (1) polls.
• As of Wednesday, Stanford ranks No. 2 in the NCAA RPI behind Florida and ahead of North Carolina, Georgia and Arkansas.
• Stanford returns home next week to host BYU on Tuesday (May 15) before a three-game series against Washington State (May 18-20). Stanford's annual Fireworks Night will be May 18 with Senior Day ceremonies set for May 20. All nine of Stanford's remaining Pac-12 games will air on Pac-12 Networks."

I like how they're wearing suits on this "business trip."

Sorry to hear that we won't be at full strength for this important series. Hopefully, the next men step up.
T. Beck gets the ball tonight.

That hurts. Does “a while” mean the rest of the season?

Announcer only said injured nothing more
One of the announcers is Scott Erickson from Homestead HS

Announcers just added that he hurt his arm in a skateboarding accident and is out for the series. Coming from the east coast to Stanford I learned that skateboards are actually used by some for transportation and not just tricks. Stinks for Maverick and the team either way but hopefully for his sake he wasn’t doing something dumb; that would probably sting even more. Hope he heals quickly.
Meanwhile, the Beavers jumped on Beck early. 3-0 OSU heading to the second.

I think he will miss at least the rest of the regular season

Beck has settled in nicely after giving up four runs in the first two innings. The problem is that the offense has failed to get going aside from a two-run home run from Matthiessen to cut the lead to 4-2 as we head to the eighth.
Matthiessen has now hit six homers in the last six games and solidified his spot as a DH when he’s not pitching. The question for me is what do you do with Matthiessen once Wulff is ready to DH. Hard to imagine Esquer will take his bat out of the lineup but can he play in the field somewhere?

Not looking so good for our Card boys, down 3-0 after 3 in game 2.
Looks like we're missing Handley's presence both in the lineup and behind the plate.

Unfortunately, the final score was uglier than yesterday's, as we were routed 10-0.
Let's come back tomorrow to play for the pride of the (soon to be gone) #2 ranking!

Will power! Matthiessen with a 3-run triple top 10 and Little gets a long-relief W, 9-6! We needed that!

What resiliency shown by the team. I thought we were doomed for the sweep down 6-1. We clawed our way back little by little until tying it with a pinch hit Homer at the top of the ninth and winning it with a bases loaded double in the 10th. A much-needed 9-6 win after being abused all weekend by the River Rats.

Our longer batting order and better bullpen finally made the difference.. Matthiesen, Oar and Robinson deivered the big hits and Matthiesen and Little made the throws.
Yes: resilient. A brobdingnagian win. RPI barely budges: -0.1.

Hat tip to Oar for PH dingers in his last 3 games, and Matthiessen showing Ohtani how it’s done.

from All Write Now today:
"First-year Stanford coach David Esquer just wanted to see his team fight. The Cardinal had been soundly beaten Friday night and walloped Saturday in its big Pac-12 showdown series at Oregon State, and it looked just about down and out after falling behind 6-1 through four innings Sunday. This was unfamiliar territory for a Stanford team that hadn’t lost back-to-back games all spring during its dominant 38-6 campaign. But Esquer didn’t resort to desperate motivational antics. When a couple of close calls went against the Cardinal in key spots, he didn’t sprint out of the dugout with arms flailing and get himself ejected to try to fire up his players; he took a leisurely stroll and chatted with the umpires calmly and quietly, presumably inviting them to postgame tea and crumpets. He didn’t raise his voice to his players; he didn’t even confront them with a direct challenge.
“We’re not built that way,” he said. “To be honest, we had to find ourselves, and it was about being relaxed in the moment. I think they understood the game and how big it was, and I think it just takes a while to be yourself in these big moments. So really it was about not creating any drama, and taking the approach of, ‘Hey, regardless of what happens today, we’ve just got to grow up this weekend.’ … I think other than Nico Hoerner, everybody that’s on the field wasn’t on the field a year ago, and we’re playing against a team that had maybe the best season in college baseball history (last year), and almost everybody was back on the field. So we had quite a challenge.”"
