Makes sense to get a catcher, with Buster 31 and Hundley 34. But probably the hardest position to find someone who has a good bat as well.

Picking #2, I think they should go for the best prospect regardless of position.

They would have had #1 pick except that Detroit went 6-24 after Sep 1 last year --- an epic tanking.

It's hard to believe that this is Buster's 10th year in the league (counting a handful of games in 2009).

The top three pitchers in this year’s draft (per Jim Bowden at The Athletic)

Casey Mize, Auburn (a consensus #1 choice)
Matthew Liberatore, a HS pitcher from the Phoenix area
Brady Singer, University of Florida

If SF selects Liberatore, I would be very happy - Cain And Bumgarner were both high schoolers they were drafted.

They get the bases loaded with one out in the 6th against an lefty and Bochy uses two pinch hitters ---- Jackson (whiff) and Hernandez (pop up). Sheesh, where's Buster when we need him.

He took a foul ball off his mask yesterday - Posey said it was the hardest hit to his mask in his career.

He looked stunned. Votto leaned over and grabbed him and seemed shocked by the violence of the hit. If Votto wasn’t the potential last out I think Boch would have pulled him.

I think the Giants take pitching this year. This is an important draft for them, they can get a lot of talent and really restock their minors.

I think they take pitching. I'm worried they take a college pitcher, hopeful they take Liberatore.

BTW, the Giants are hitting .379 with the bases loaded, tops in the majors.

Crawford's hitting .295, but his .761 OPS is just 10th in the majors among shortstops. Belt on the other hand, is second in MLB for OPS for 1st basemen. Longoria is #16. Posey is #6.

Giants are #16 in runs scored and team OPS. #19 in HRs. #3 in strikeouts. Giants are #27 in fielding percentage (.980), but #1 in double plays (49). They are #18 in ERA and #20 in WHIP. Don't really understand that.

Next 11- 6 more vs Rockies (who beat the Giants like a drum) 2 vs Astros 3 vs Cubs. I’m thinking 3-9.

They keep running Gorkys Blanco and Jackson out there. Once again the OF is a mess. Why they insist on keeping Slater in the minors while keeping Hernandez mystifies me. Yes Gorkys is out of options. Good. Maybe someone else would take him and his career .239 average (his OBP this year - .296). But I doubt it. Blanco hangs cause he’s lefthanded and Duggar isn’t ready offensively

Slater can’t come up till May 26 cause the Giants played him one game off the taxi squad before calling up Gomez. Still. It’s frustrating.

Then there is Jackson. 6 mill down the drain. 42 Ks 0 HRs. Slug pct under .300. Below ave defensively

Were it up to me, I’d bring Slater up ASAP. Put him in LF till Mac comes back. Then when Mac is back I’d move Williamson to RF and put Cutch back in Center. I wish the Giants had moved Slater to Center while in the minors. He’s athletic enough. But that would involve imagination. They have none.

Better to sign old “established “ players - overpay them and watch as they underperform. Also , the Giants refuse to admit mistakes and release salary. So we get Pence back soon. Which will further muck things up.

I said 70-92 awhile back. I stand by it.

If Im right, they darn well better turn over the front office. Bobby Evans hasn’t shown much, Sabes had his day. And Bochy is not the right guy to manage a rebuilding team.

I watched most of that miserable game last night and couldn’t believe Bochy used up his bullpen the way he did. Where did they dig up that Pierce Johnson? 27 and going nowhere fast. You could just hear the despair in Kruk and Kuip.
Great effort by Shark but at the end of the day he’s just an innings-eater.

The bottom of that order is killing them. Hernandez with a great catch but just a nothing at the plate. Jackson did have 2 doubles early in the game but with Hernandez, Tomlinson, and the pitcher and then Blanco following, the outcome is pretty certain. And was it Jackson who took second unnecessarily on catchers indifference and took the bat out of Panda’s hands?

What could Bochy do? Shark went 6 2/3. He did only get 1/3 out of Smith. But then Dyson 8th, Strickland 9 and Watson 10. I didn’t have a problem with an inning from each.

Johnson got thru 11. But sooner or later your offense has to do something. Giants couldn’t. Not sure what else he could have done. Gearrin can’t get lefties out. Moranta pitched night before and has command issues. He was at the bottom of the pen.

Johnson actually has looked good at times this year.

Like Moronta, Slater, Watson among new Giants. Jury out on Williamson. Longoria and McCutchan past their prime but serviceable. Gotta go’s are Gearrin, Gomez, Pence, Holland, Shark, Blanco and Hernandez if they are to have a decent roster next year. Hope Moronta has the stones of Nen and Wilson and with experience and command can close in ‘19 because Melancon will return and get hurt again.

Too many GD strikeouts. I hate the way the game has changed.

Agree with all. Especially the strikeouts. Ks walks and HRs constitute about a third of the AB’s. No running game. No hitting behind runners. No Carews Boggs Gwynn. Artists with the bat. Pure power game now. Pitching and hitting. Blame it on the mathmeticians.

Pence might be back soon as well. He’s most likely done after this year but it could be interesting to see an OF of Williamson/McCutchen/Pence for a few games. They might all be 10-9 but as long as we have the 10 I’m ok with that. The really interesting question would be with that OF, who ends up batting leadoff? Maybe Panik if he’s also back? Or Pence?
