Luck throwing a normal football - JJJ - 06-12-2018

We have evidence that Andrew Luck, in fact, is still capable of throwing a normal football.

It has been a weird year-plus for the Indianapolis Colts star quarterback, who had shoulder surgery in March of 2017 and missed all last season. After a setback last year the Colts were painfully slow in his rehab progress this time around, which means we heard way too many updates about whether Luck was back to throwing regular, regulation-sized footballs. He had been throwing smaller, weighted footballs through the spring, but not the real thing.

from ESPN:

Colts quarterback Andrew Luck not only threw a football in front of the media Tuesday for the first time since he was shut down last October, he also said he will "absolutely" be playing the team's Week 1 opener against the Cincinnati Bengals.

"No knock on wood," Luck said. "I'll be playing. I believe it in my bones."

But what does he feel in his cartilage?

Have you all seen how jacked he looks this year compared to years past?  Goodness.  He has certainly attacked his rehab and offseason workouts with, uh, zeal greater than those levels of zeal with which our species has heretofore been capable.

In any event, I understand that many Colts fans are hesitant to believe he's really back and will be ready to go after last year's is-this-the-week-when-Luck-starts-practicing-again saga, but I'll take Andrew at his word.

Many pundits have ranked the Colts as one of the worst teams in the league, but those have to be based on the presumption that Luck will be out.  It'll take a few more years to rebuild that roster, but Ballard has done a terrific job the last couple of years.  (I didn't totally love this year's draft at first, but I've come around on it.)  If Luck is healthy and stays healthy all year, I think that's a playoff team.  Even an injured Luck on a bad roster was worth 8-8. He has worked wonders on that club, and he finally has a GM and a coaching staff that deserve him.

If he stays healthy, the Colts make the playoffs, he's the Comeback Player of the Year, and he's getting MVP talk.
