A bit of appreciation for the stability of the Card football program. Nothing new here . . . just some deserved appreciation

While the author never gives any definition of "well oiled machine", it seems from the blurbs on each team it seems to be something along the lines of consistently winning under the current coach, or at least in a recent-ish kind of way. By that criteria, Stanford ought to be higher than #10.
Certainly #9 und and #8 Michigan have no claim to be ahead of Stanford under either current coaches or recenti-ish records; and it's a tight case for #7 LSU and #4 Georgia (though both have been pretty good for quite a bit longer).
However, these sorts of things are obviously influenced by winning traditions over 50+ years and general media attention. In that light, it is a notable accomplishment to see Stanford on the list.

I would say that it's quite a stretch to call FSU a well oiled machine.
