Prime time on the East Coast.  This will be a great opportunity to impress those who may otherwise not get to watch us.

Potential for College Game Day in Eugene. Both teams will be 3-0 and ranked. No idea what else is on the schedule that day.

This game might have College Gameday potential.

TAMU at Alabama?  Though A&M is unranked, we are still talking about the SEC.  The only other game that features two ranked teams is #23 ASU at #10 UW, but that shouldn't be susceptible to regional bias.  My guess is that if both Oregon and Stanford are 3 - 0 and thus ranked, there is a high chance of College Game Day, especially since it is an ABC game.

We probably would have been Gameday this past weekend if we were on ABC/ESPN.  As a Fox game, it wasn't happening.

The odds are ASU face plants at SDSU, knocking them out of the Top 25.

I don't think Bama fans will be too geeked for aTm game.

Both Stanford and Oregon play teams they will hammer this week.

ESPN loves the Eugene atmosphere.

For the record, I really don't care about College Gameday anymore. I have pretty well eliminated it from my schedule to do other things Saturday mornings, and I won't watch it if they are at Eugene on 9/22. But it's still interesting to guess where it might be since it's a window into the national temperature.

College GameDay has originated from sites where the game is being broadcast on FOX before. Last November, they went to Madison for Wisconsin-Michigan; that was a FOX game.

I'm sure games that are being broadcast on ESPN/ABC get a bit more weight when deciding where GameDay should go, but if the game is on FOX or CBS (or NBC if it's a Notre Dame home game), it's definitely not a deal-breaker.

That is correct.  However, we have several strikes against us before we begin:
1) Time zone
2) ESPN's conference bias (pro-SEC)
3) Perception of the fan base
4) Perception of the conference

Add to that a game that is not on a Disney property, and it seems to me that you would almost need a top-5 matchup going up against a completely banal schedule so as to merit a Gameday.

Wasn't Gameday just at TAMU? Odd that they'd be highlighted two of three weeks and not even be ranked.

Glad they weren't at Stanford last week, few students are on campus. . . ..

TAMU at Alabama?

I doubt that GameDay is going to go to Tuscaloosa so early in the season. They still have home games against Mississippi St on 11/10 and Auburn on 11/24 which is the most likely date.

Not going this year but went two years ago and really enjoyed the Eugene experience.  It helps that we won handily.

Regarding Gameday, I don't watch it much, but when I do, I always look for the Cougar flag.  They have a great tradition explained here:

Geaux Cardinal!

I was thinking about it, but instead we'll be in Denver for Great American Beer Festival and I'll likely miss the first half of the game. I'd like to get to some stadiums outside of California, maybe when my kid is older and into it and I can give my wife a weekend alone.

Ummm doesn't Oregon license Donald Duck's likeness or something like that for the mascot costume? About as close to a Disney property as you're going to find

Really?  I had been under the impression that Disney pays Oregon.  May be one of those instances I've encountered later in life in which memories get garbled.  It has been a rough transition for me to adjust to occasionally being mistaken.  :-)

If only there were an online encyclopedia that could settle these sorts of things...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Oregon_Duck#Relationship_with_Disney

Quote:Ducks, with their webbed feet, began to be associated with the team in the 1920s, and a live white duck named "Puddles" began to appear at sports events.[2] Journalists, especially headline writers, also adopted the shorter Duck nickname.[3] In 1978, a student cartoonist came up with a new duck image called Mallard Drake, but students chose Donald as the official mascot by a 2–to–1 margin.[1][2][4]

Relationship with Disney
Beginning in 1940, cartoon drawings of Puddles in student publications began to resemble Donald Duck, and by 1947, Walt Disney was aware of the issue. Capitalizing on his friendship with a Disney cartoonist, Oregon athletic director Leo Harris met Disney and reached an informal handshake agreement that granted the University of Oregon permission to use Donald as its sports mascot, naming him Donald Duck.[1][2][4]

When Disney lawyers later questioned the agreement in the 1970s, the university produced a photo showing Harris and Disney wearing matching jackets with an Oregon Donald logo.[2][5] Relying on the photo as evidence of Disney's wishes, in 1973, both parties signed a formal agreement granting the university the right to use Donald's likeness as a symbol for (and restricted to) Oregon sports.[2] The agreement gave Disney control over where the mascot could perform and ensured that the performer inside the costume would "properly represent the Donald Duck character."[6]

In 2010, Disney and the university reached an agreement that removed the costumed Oregon Duck mascot from its association with the Donald trademark, and allowed The Duck to make more public appearances, such as at college mascot competitions.[6] The mascot in graphic art, which is more similar to Donald Duck than the rounder head and body of the costume, is still covered by the trademark agreement.[6]
