Why did Davis get to kick the extra point? -

NCAA football rules (at least the 2017 version - I didn't find 2018)
Rule 8(2)(a)
a. The ball shall be put in play by the team that scored a six-point touchdown. If a touchdown is scored during a down in which time in the fourth period expires, the try shall not be attempted unless the point(s) would affect the outcome of the game.
I had remembered that rule (we didn't get to do a PAT in a game at WSU where we had a kickoff return for a touchdown on the last play of the game) and was surprised when it was kicked.
Have they changed the rule? Or more bad reffing?
I found a list of 2018 rule changes. This wasn't listed. I think we won 30-9 (and hence the 21 point margin as over SD State). Not that it it matters, at all.

Good question. I thought the same thing at the time. Anyone know?

The ref must have been betting on the point spread.

I know that was in jest, but the point spread was 31 points, so we weren't going to beat the spread regardless of whether the TD, let alone the extra point, had happened.

Wait, I didn't think there was an official point spread since UCD is an FCS school...

Sure there was. Vegas (and offshore books) like action.

I had checked Vegas Insider during the week and the game didn't have any spreads. Maybe some places took action but it seems like it wasn't many.

Many places were taking action (both in Nevada and offshore), but most lines didn't open until game day. (For what it's worth, I'm counting 21 offshore books + 7 Nevada books who had lines up on game day.)

Ah, that explains it. I wonder why the wait, it seems odd to not have a line on Wednesday but have one on Saturday.

Does anyone have any insight on the OP? Why did Davis kick the extra point?

Seems like the refs goofed. You'd probably have to ask the conference to get an answer.

I would guess this is is just an example of officials not knowing all the rules. Really I think it's not that surprising that an individual official would miss a rule like that, but it's surprising that no one on the crew knew. And doesn't that include the Pac-12, in general? Aren't they paying attention from the league office? You'd have thought someone there would've buzzed the crew chief and let him know. Just another example of Pac-12 ineptitude.
