No Snaps for Keller Chryst -
Austroturf - 09-29-2018
In Tennessee's 38-12 loss to Georgia, Chryst had no playing time (for the second game in a row). This transfer is not working out well. Feel kind of sorry for the young man: I was hoping he would find a team that would give him a chance to shine, but this is not giving him the chance he was hoping for.

Yeah, you would have hoped he could go to a place where he could get some playing time, otherwise what was the point of leaving. Oh well, at least he has his Stanford education to his credit.

Particularly since the starter isn't playing lights out.

The depth chart wasn't too intimidating when he transferred and he may give TN a better chance of winning now, but the challenge is TN is having a tough season and is in rebuilding mode so it probably doesn't make sense to have a 5th year senior start at QB and get reps over another player who will be back next year.

Fixed it for you.

I would have hoped better for Chryst but:
- Did he get into Stanford for graduate school? I'm guessing he may not have but have no information. If he didn't then the "option" of a 5th year here as the #3 (or #4) QB was not really an option
- He's going to get a paid-for masters at Tennessee. Could be a lot worse. Pretty clear that despite Shaw's statements Chryst is NOT draft quality so his football career is likely going to end this year unless he goes to CFL which is doubtful

Yes, that was my thinking, too. Unless there is no other option, why give reps to a player with one season of eligibility? Guarantano has a number of years left, so they can develop him.

It might be different if Chryst was clearly good enough to make them a contender for the top spot, or at least move them up a lot. He isn't (and, as bad as they are, probably nobody could be), so developing a young guy is their best option.

Harsh, but I agree. I had high hopes for Chryst initially but he was never the same after tearing up his knee in the Sun Bowl.
