One positive from Utah game - TinderForMidgets - 10-07-2018

We had 3 100+ yard pass catchers in our studs - Kaden Smith, Trent Irwin and JJ Arcega-Whiteside. That never happens.

All to no avail when you turn the ball over four freaking times.  But, yeah, kudos to the receiving corps.  We knew they were good!

The Ute DB crashed the party. He was a 100 yard receiver too on passes from Costello.

The last time it did was 1998 - Husak pointed this out on the radio at the end of the game. When he was the QB.

Other than the two picks the passing game was really good last night. But those two picks put them in a hole that they couldn't climb out of.

I'm saving this quote for the entire bye week.

Reminiscent of the 2016 Sun Bowl, when Dallas Lloyd was our best receiver (64 yards and 1 TD) on passes from Mitchell Trubisky.  Except that time, their QB was throwing the picks.

Much of the passing yardage seemed to happen as Utah deployed a prevent style defense to protect their large lead.

I also liked that Wilson and St.Brown were more involved. The mistakes masked the fact that Stanford’s offense was different Sat. Much more wide open. More diverse in the passing game.

Going forward I expect to see more of the same. Unfortunately out of necessity. They can’t run. And the defense can’t stop anyone. Thus they will have to throw a lot.

I disagree.  For most of the game, Utah was playing in their base defense against our three wide receiver sets, with a safety covering the slot receiver (usually a tight end) and cover 1 up with a safety up top.  That safety rotated with the snap, so he wasn't playing "centerfield" to prevent the deep play, moving once the ball was thrown.  That they rarely switched into a nickel defense with two deep safeties suggests that they weren't really playing a true prevent.

+1 They played base a lot. We still had singled up receivers, but often they were still well covered. Utah gave up lots of passing yards to WSU. Hard to say what that means against a "normal" offense. UW instead relied on the run against them. It is hard to say how good their pass defense actually is. For sure, they didn't stack the box as much as SDSU or USC. They played more base than even ND, I think.

It reminded me of the 90's when we had an exciting passing game, suspect running, and defense that made me grimace.

I had exactly the same thought in the 2nd half of the Utah gave.

I haven't seen our QB spike the ball to stop the clock so many times since Steve Stenstrom was doing it.

Also I haven't seen a QB getting pounded so much since Stenstrom either.  (Though Trent Edwards might argue with that.)
