Agree agree shouldn’t have outside interference. But I also see why it was reversed. He is twisting her head away at contact. What is hard to tell in slo mo is whether he was beginning to start the process of tackling Daniels before he took a knee.
“Upon further review” - looks like he launched after Daniels had taken a knee. I reverse myself....

Why is the general counsel involved? Fear of lawsuit?

What would happen if that player, or all the players in the PAC-12, sued the PAC-12 for failing to enforce the safety rules, and thereby threatened both their health and their future income?
A coach's contract may ban him from talking about officials or officiating, but what does the league hold over players? Threats of future bad calls against them?

Scott backpedaled and it's apparently not going to happen again.

Wasn’t there another very questionable uncalled targeting earlier this year?

In the very same game. It was S.C.'s Porter Gustin targeting the Washington State quarterback. It seemed like a textbook case of targeting, but it wasn't called. The key part of this article is the discussion about how it invalidates Larry Scott's claims that the conference is interested in player safety. It's ridiculous.

The Tv deals have just about ruined it for me. Example. 7:30 kickoff last Saturday. 8am call time in Santa Clara Sunday and no overnight provided by the employer. No way I drive to Paly, drive back to Marin and then to S.C. I’ve been attending games since 1953 and have no plans to fully retire. So after next year’s great home schedule I’m done. Stanford loses another season ticket holder and the schools and Scott pocket the cash and don’t give a damn.
The conference can stick it.

Ironically, because of Scott you will probably not miss out on anything by giving up your season tickets (other than the Tonga juice). It really is an issue of tradeoffs; I would have loved a TV deal that had Stanford on every week back when I lived in Boston (even though some of the games would have been on very late) and LA. Now that I'm in the Bay Area, only the availability of away games is a plus; but in order to accommodate TV, the games are at more inconvenient times, and the downside to not going is lower.

I'm glad to see that the Pac-12 is getting bad press nationally over this. I did like the first paragraph of the LA Times article linked above: "The Pac-12 Conference, which has a long history of missteps when it comes to officiating football and basketball games, was left reeling Thursday from yet another embarrassment."
Someone needs to start a Larry Scott meme with a Pinocchio nose. Of course, he's not the first Pinocchio in charge of the conference. I'm still fuming over Tom Hansen's paternalistic, snide responses when I wrote to him about Melissa Barlow and Violet Palmer.

It's long past time for the conference to be able to examine these calls after the fact and issue player suspensions, especially to repeat offenders like Gustin who has already been ejected once for targeting. They could also reverse bad calls, allowing an ejected player to not miss half or all of the next game.
In the pre-targeting era, I remember U$C CB TJ McDonald laying out Chris Owusu. It was at least the third time that season he'd been flagged for unnecessary roughness which at the time was all they could do. He should have been suspended for the next game.
Scott's action here was weak and ineffective - pretty much par for the course.

At least Hanson answered you triangle. I’m still waiting for Gooch to respond about WBB officials

Bob - I might have preferred the silent treatment. The 'highlight' of Hansen's reply to me: "Our women are even more dominant on the national stage, and Mellisa [sic] Barlow is as good as there is."
Now you can fume along with me.

If Larry Scott & the PAC-12 were interested in player safety, and setting this right, the conference would "target" the two players in that game with a half-game suspension for uncalled targeting in the second half. Not doing so shows he's just blowing smoke at the fans and players.

The perception of bias could be addressed, especially if there are patterns to home team, big programs, etc. being allowed to get away with targeting during games.
There is such a rule:
Quote:Foul Not Called
ARTICLE 2. If subsequent review of a game by a conference reveals plays
involving flagrant personal fouls that game officials did not call, the conference
may impose sanctions prior to the next scheduled game.

Full game suspensions. Gustin should get more than that since it would be his second targeting ejection this year.

Looks like the injury gods intervened where the PAC-12 officials did not and imposed a 6-game suspension.
