Excellent news!! That's a tremendous victory for Tara and the program. Hopefully, that will entice Haley Jones to come to the Farm as well.
Perhaps Cameron's family's friendship with Steph Curry and his family helped in the decision to come to the Farm:

Hurrah! I do think that if Haley comes we are looking at a possible national championship in a few years. Wow! Absolutely terrific news!

Excellent, excellent news. Our highest ranked recruit since Chiney all the way back in 2010, which will have been, wow, a decade! I totally agree 81 - as I posted earlier this weekend, I think Brink + Jones plus our current underclassmen and commits will be a very, very competitive team in the years ahead. (And note who appears in the bottom right photo of the tweet Bob linked to - hopefully that's a sign, just like Hannah Jump's photos portended a Brink commitment!)

AWESOME!!!
In a weekend full of sucky news, this is one helluva bright spot.
RE: WBB recruiting. Oh YES! -

BTW - with the recent commitments of Brink and Prechtel, we will have multiple starter-quality players 6'4" or taller inside together for the first time since Appel and Chiney briefly overlapped, and certainly since Chiney and Nneka, who at 6'2" played taller than her actual height given her extreme athleticism.
The deep irony of all this, coupled with the sharpshooters we'll also be bringing on board (Jump and Van Gytenbeek), is that just as we have fully put the triangle to rest and adjusted to the Princeton, we'll likely have personnel better suited to our offense of the early 2010s again... I guess it's great that Tara always likes to keep challenged!

A very cool connection to Stef Curry through their mothers:

Thanks for sharing, 81! The deep comfort hitting mid-range jumpers + the trey were exciting to see from someone who's 6'4"! I should also add that given the number of recruits from Oregon that Tennessee has snagged from our recruiting backyard over the past decade, it's especially gratifying to get one ourselves, esp. with both Oregon and Oregon State now legitimate recruiting threats too. This was a big, big recruiting win.

Scott Rueck just got a commitment from 6'6" Kennedy Brown in the last couple days, so we'll need all the front-line size we can get when we play the Beavers.

While scanning the ESPNW news feed, I also found this recent story on 2019 commit Ashten Prechtel -

Wow, amazing news and a bit of a shocker considering Brink is from the class of 2020. We haven't had a player this highly ranked since Chiney. And if we get Jones in '19 as well, then we will have the best back to back recruiting classes ever.

Brink's commit prompted a 3-page thread on the UConn board. They'd been hoping to get her.

Interesting that several people in the Boneyard thread mention how the PAC-12 Network is making women's basketball stronger because friends and family can now see most games. Because I'm much more a basketball fan than football, I too generally have a similarly rosy view of the network. Funny how it's the complete 180 from football, where expectations are for primetime ESPN-type slots, and so the PAC-12 Network is actually generally viewed as a recruiting
weakness for football...

Story on Brink
http://www.espn.com/espnw/sports/article/25117532/women-basketball-prospect-cameron-brink-commits-stanford-cardinal
As of this moment we have 2 openings for 2020
Another point. 9 of the top 60 from the 2020 class have committed. Two to Stanford

CompSci87 - 10-29-2018
We've certainly had a change from the years when (as I understand) Tara discouraged anyone from announcing their commitment before being admitted. I think I heard that that started after someone who had committed didn't pass admissions and the decommit was embarrassing (is that right?).
The positive side of having the earlier public commits is that it creates more buzz around the program. Maybe it even encourages more players to consider Stanford seriously when they see who's going to be coming.
RE: WBB recruiting. Oh YES! -
BosCard - 10-29-2018
Agreed. We know that top players generally like playing with other top players. So hopefully Brink's commitment helps a tiny bit with Jones in '19, Bueckers in '20 and Fudd in '21.

Why don't you see it the same for WBB as for football? There are fewer PAC-12 games on national networks than many of the other top 20 teams.
Even here in the Bay Area, if I could only watch on TV & online, I'll miss more Stanford games than UConn, South Carolina, Tennessee.
Heck, even with my being at Stanford for every home game & watching TV & online, I'd miss more Stanford games than UConn games (potentially, of course!).

Just because it is better now than a few years ago, doesn't mean that Stanford is seen as often by much of the country. (especially if you take into account that online games are rarely available time shifted, so west coast games might be inconvenient for people on the east coast).
Is there a TIVO-like app for online video broadcasts?
RE: WBB recruiting. Oh YES! -
2006alum - 10-29-2018
MT, prior to the PAC-12 network, I saw roughly 3-4 Stanford games per season: our (used to be) regular OOC game against UConn, our OOC game against Tennessee, and a few NCAA games, depending on how high we were seeded and if we made it past the first two rounds. Unlike football, there are far more games to pick from for ESPN/ESPN2 scheduling, women's basketball has always taken a backseat to men's basketball, and the major networks don't usually play college basketball games out of season. Football games are on numerous major networks every weekend and there are far fewer games in total to schedule.
The teams you mention, UConn and Tennessee, are the exceptions when it comes to ESPN-type coverage, a result of their combined 20+ national championships, ESPN's Connecticut home base, and the SEC's deep roots with ESPN. Prior to the Staley championship-level teams of the past 2-3 seasons, I can't remember U (other) SC having many (or any?) nationally televised games. I can think of a few UND games (mostly from when they were still in the Big East and had two showdowns per season with UConn), and a few Baylor games that have rounded out what I tend to see nationally televised.
So I guess I just never had the expectation many football fans had that we should see our women's team on ESPN every weekend. It'd be lovely, but it didn't happen and it won't be anytime soon. So in that universe, if I can get every single game on PAC-12 network, I'll gladly take it. My basketball fandom (men's and women's) has grown exponentially since the PAC-12 gave me access to approximately 95% of Stanford's basketball games.
And I should add re: online, I use Sling, which is awesome. $25 per month, another $5 to add sports package that includes ALL the PAC-12 networks (so Mountain, Washington, Oregon, Bay Area, Arizona, SoCal, etc.), and another $5 per month to add DVR capabilities. For $35 per month I can stream and record all the Stanford sports I can watch from September when football starts to April when basketball ends. Monthly charge with no cancellation or sign-up fee, so I switch it off during the summer. For me, it's been the rare experience in life of getting exactly what I want, how I want it, for a very low price. So I guess my assessment of Scott's negotiating skills are skewed as a result.

That Boneyard thread was a fun read, Comp87. My favorite quotes from that thread:
"Terribly disappointing. Stanford may be a contender again in the near future."
"Stanford has continued to be a strong program throughout VanDerveer's tenure. To me they haven't had a truly elite player since Chiney left. They might finally have one again in Brink. Also I think Lexie Hull is going to be a terrific player for the Cardinal."
"Stanford has been getting elite talent from Oregon for years; not surprised. If a West region player prioritizes academics and is an elite athlete, Stanford is the #1 choice in that area (in just about all sports). if offered."
"Imagine Brink , Haley Jones and HVL all choosing stanford!" (HVL = Hailey Van Lith 2020 point guard)
"Great get for Tara. If she can haul in 1-2 other elite players, we could see Stanford back as a title contender like they were from 2008-2012 when she had several top 5 kids on her teams (Ogwumikes, Pederson, Appel, Wiggins, etc.)"
"Who's helping Coach T out in recruiting? There's some serious action going on the ranch.....and Ms. Jones has yet to make her decision."
Then there were a couple of pages of comments on whether Brink should or shouldn't be compared with Breanna Stewart.
