82lsju - 11-16-2018
Pac-12 officials told KTVU on Friday they expected the postponement of the 121st meeting of the Cal and Stanford football teams, scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Stadium, due to poor air quality related to the Camp fire in Butte County. An formal announcement was expected later Friday. It is unknown when or if the game will be rescheduled.

Per LSJUMB announcement list, now Saturday December 1 at noon.
All other athletic events on campus supposedly are going to be moved or cancelled.

Just FYI, AQI in Berkeley this afternoon was 230, more than halfway to hazardous from very unhealthy.

Looks like the Sunday soccer is still scheduled for Cagan. But I'm not sanguine.
Wonder if they'll be able to stream anything from Salinas.

The decision probably was made by somebody from SF State. Cool head, practical education.

It's probably in another thread but I thought it useful to get as a subject line. Kick off at noon. All tickets for Nov. 17 will be honored.

I'm glad you are "practically" educated TC! Good thing you are thick skinned, you gator you!
As for the decision...it's about time! Come on people, student athletes first, $'s later.

Email to watch party organizers:
Dear Big Game Organizers & Hosts,
Due to poor air quality in the Bay Area, the 121st Big Game between Cal and Stanford has been rescheduled for Saturday, December 1 at California Memorial Stadium. The game will kick off at 12 noon and be televised on the Pac-12 Network. Please notify your attendees as appropriate. We will be in touch on Monday about rescheduling Viewing Parties.
After extensive consultation with medical and environmental experts, the Pac-12 Conference and Stanford, UC Berkeley concluded that the game should be postponed due to concerns for the health and well-being of student-athletes, staff, the band and student groups, and fans.
Statement from Jaquish & Kenninger Director of Athletics Bernard Muir
"The entire Stanford Athletics community recognizes this has been an extremely challenging time for so many people who have been affected by the wildfires, both in the Bay Area and throughout the state. Our thoughts are with them, first and foremost. We are thankful to the University of California for collaborating with us on the logistical challenges of rescheduling the Big Game, and are looking forward to playing the game on December 1."
You’ll find more information about the game here:

I certainly think that is beneficial for us in getting some of our injured players healthy.

It's real easy to postpone the game until Dec 1 given neither team can be in the Pac-12 Championship game.
What would happen if Stanford was in the running for the Pac-12 championship game this season? The game would seemingly have to be played in order to decide the North rep in the championship game, before Dec 1, right? But if it couldn't be played Saturday, when would it be played given UCLA is next week, and both games would be needed to decide the North?

Could have been moved to another locale. San Diego? Las Vegas? Oregon? Problem for fans but could have been played.

I think you don't play it then and go by winning percentage (since there aren't an equal number of games to compare anymore). That might have helped us, it might have hurt us. I don't think you can blame anyone for an act of god, just gotta go with which games were playable.

option 1: the pac-12 championship is decided without the game. Would suck if it meant the difference between being a pac-12 north champion and not, but still not worth jeopardizing the health of players.
Option 2: play the game somewhere else, as the soccer championship is. They could play in Reno or LA or San Diego.
