Stanford will be without Herbig and Dalman this week and Hamilton may only be available for spot duty. Does "back practicing" mean ready for game action? Man, RG has been a cursed position this season.

Actually, except for JJAW it hasn't changed much from a week ago. Of course, JJAW is a big addition.
Interesting Smith was able to play after he suffered the injury against OSU but two weeks later he may be unable to go.
I guess the good news (for the fans at least) on Herbig is that this makes it more likely he will stay around for another season.

Why? He's already projected as a 2nd to 3rd round choice. Can he really improve his stock that much more with another season? IMO, Herbig should declare himself eligible for the 2019 NFL Draft.

Well, here's an article that projects him as a 4-6th round and suggests he should could back in 2019. So what you say is hardly unanimous.

I don't know why any of us, who (with a couple of exceptions) don't know Herbig or his ambitions, should claim to know what he should do. That's fraught enough territory when you actually know somebody, let alone when the person is a complete stranger.

While I agree with BC that none of us should claim to know what is best for Herbig in terms of whether or not he should return to Stanford next year vs. turn pro, I think that NFL draft prognosticating is, sometimes, informative.

The injuries may have been even more extensive than we knew. From the Buck/Cardinal newsletter, talking about the benefit of an extra week of rest.

On the offensive line, junior Devery Hamilton and fifth-year seniors A.T. Hall and Jesse Burkett have been fighting day-to-day, while sophomore Foster Sarell has an extra week to continue his rehabilitation with a chance to play again. Senior wide receiver JJ Arcega-Whiteside missed our Nov. 10 game versus Oregon State and now is on the mend.
On the defensive side of the ball, our linebackers have been hit hardest by injuries this season. Getting that break and extending the season should help fifth-year senior Joey Alfieri, senior Casey Toohill, senior Mustafa Branch and sophomore Thunder Keck get back onto the field. The Pac-12’s leader in pass breakups and pass defenses, sophomore Paulson Adebo was limited last week and welcomed the rest.

All speculative, of course, but there's always the thought that if you're going to get injured, you might as well collect a paycheck while you rehabilitate. And maybe even some pension money if/when that injury returns many years later as a chronic pain or worse.

To be clear, my comment was not a complaint about people speculating, it was a complaint about people thinking they know what he should do or what is best for him when they have never even met the young man.
