Stanford- Wisconsin - lex24 - 11-21-2018
Wisconsin is a basketball program I have long felt Stanford should look at as a model. They are good every year. They never have one and done type players. Always fairly athletic, but I would say more skilled. And they play hard on defense with a relatively slow down style offensly. Always have a couple of guys that can shoot threes.
Stanford can play that style and win, I think.

da Silva has been victimized inside so far this game -- two blocks on good looks on offense, and has been taken to the post a few times.
Still, tied 14-14. Sharma has been a presence. Davis is looking good from a pure point guard perspective.
On offense, seeing a lot of ten-dollar moves and ten-cent finishes. Meanwhile Wisky is just looking stronger inside when they've got the ball.

It's interesting, Stanford looks even or perhaps even better than Wisconsin on speed and hops. But the Badgers are stronger, top to bottom. Even guys you'd think would have some heft don't look much stronger than they've been. (thinking of da Silva here, who would be a serious prospect if he weren't being bullied so much)
Daejon Davis has really made a leap in his point guard work. A credit to him and the program.

Ridiculous refereeing in the 2nd half, Stanford called for 10 fouls in the first 6:30 minutes, in the double bonus, many of ticky-tack variety. Wisconsin called for 0 fouls at that point.

Yeah, wheels kind of fell off. Tough game, with an ichy offense. As WIM points out, we need to be better finishing, but we also needed to be better creating chances, especially in that critical period at the end of the first half and beginning of the second. It was kind of painful to watch at times.

Coach is 1-15 vs ranked opponents. Once again BC, need one and done in this era. I know they won't. so you guys should hope for change in rules allowing HS kids to pass on college.

Dude, there are what, 10-15 one and done players annually? How many one and dones does the Wisconsin team that just throttled Stanford have on it?
You shoot 27% FG and score 46 points and you are going to lose, period. Haase seems to have recruited well, but if these recruits can't put the ball through the cylinder, it might be time to start signing less heralded players who can. Either that or Haase sucks as a coach and a new one would work wonders with the talent he has accumulated.
I'm not a hoops expert and understand it a lot less than football, so I'll leave that discussion to others.

Seems odd to bring this up in a thread that was started with the premise that Wisconsin is a consistently good team that has never had one and done players, and is put forth as a model we can emulate. And that was before said team dominated us. What is Garg’s Record against ranked opponents?

Who cares? Stanford can't win enough to qualify for the NCAA. Need better players. Why turn a blind eye to someone who can help you even if you know he is leaving after a year? Or with your connections do you know that the school refuses to look at these kids? Maybe the experience will convince them to stay for two. Of course they would not get a blank check admission.

According to the announcers, this is the first time Wisconsin didn't make a 3 pointer in a game in over 20 years. The ballroom and those rims were wonky. I agree that we should have been able to respond and turn to other options as Wisconsin did but I wouldn't make any dramatic conclusions about our shooting based on this game.
