I for one applaud their decision.

Yeah!!! Best news all day.
A couple of coaching casualties so far today... Fedora at UNC (I guess not every coach can survive losing the departure of their NFL level QB), and the Texas Tech coach.

I'm always fascinated by the coaching carousel. We'll see more of this as bowls come along.
P5 firings thus far:
Petrino @ Louisville (they want Brohm from Purdue)
Macintyre @ Colorado
Beatty @ Kansas (hired Les Miles, I love this so much)
Fedora @ UNC
Kingsbury @ Texas Tech
Notably along with Helton, Illinois is committing to Lovie Smith and considering a contract extension.

They cleaned house.
OC Martin, DC Pendergast, OL coach, DL coach, DB coach all gone, and QB coach left for another job.

Several seemingly solid sources saying USC is hiring Kliff Kingsbury as it's OC.

Savvy move by Kingsbury, who can slide right into the HC slot when Helton is fired after next year.

There is no "D" in "Kingsbury".

Interesting move by Helton ;and SC. Texas Tech had an above average offense (though they were going up against Big-12 “defenses”). However,it was a passing offense; they’re rushing offense was near the bottom of the Big-12. I wonder if in the quest to get a more high powered offense, SC is making the same mistake as Mora at UCLA, lurching from one offense to another and never developing an identity.

At the beginning of Justin Wilcox's postgame comments yesterday, he complimented his players for being "coachable"... which one could reasonably take as an indirect commentary on SC's players under Helton. Hasn't Wilcox been successful everywhere he's been other than SC?

How good were his defenses at UW? I don’t recall them being especially ferocious.

His defenses at UW were a pretty big step up from those of the previous def. coordinator there, who himself had been at SC under Carrol. In fact UW was drastically better on D against Stanford in '12 and '13, granted without Luck. UW's defense under Wilcox did still struggle against ASU and UofA, and other spread teams.

To follow up on the Kliff Kingsbury rumors, he never actually agreed to become USC's OC. He's still on the market and the Rams are the latest team to make a pitch.

Wilcox gave Stanford fits while at Washington.
