Pac-12 championship game - BostonCard - 11-30-2018

It's the anti Big-12.  Washington and Utah are tied 3-3 midway through the third quarter.  Washington just turned it over on downs when on fourth and twelve Browning completed a pass for six yards.  This is the second fourth down non-conversion for the Huskies.  There have been as many punts as points.  Utah has 112 yards... total.

And just like that, Washington breaks it open with a 66-yard pick-six.  There's a quarter left in the game, but hard to see Utah scoring 7 points.

This game has been bad, from the attendance, to the quality of the football. If OSU doesn't make the playoff, they will easily destroy the winner in the Rose Bowl if either team brings this level of play.

I even think Michigan would win comfortably against either team if they play at this level.

The last three Utah drives have ended in interceptions.  Washington had the pick-six on the first one, but since got a missed field goal and a three-and-out for their troubles.  Utah has one last desperation chance with about 3 minutes left.

By the way, the pick six was fluke-ish, to say the least.

Terrible no-call on the 4th down pass at the end.

Washington is going to get creamed by Michigan or Ohio State.

Utah may do ok in the Holiday bowl if they get their QB and RB back; otherwise they are screwed.  Washington State in the Alamo against a Big12 team will be perfect.  WSU is basically a Big12 team already.

I was rooting for Utah and so the tight score kept me somewhat entertained, but this was not exactly a great showcase for Pac-12 football. Of course the final image was of a coach (Whittingham) screaming at a ref. (FWIW, I thought the non-call of pass interference was bad but not egregiously bad.)

Very much a down year for Pac-12 football.

Only thing close to this boring is snails having sex.

If this is a down year, what was last year?  I don't see any reason to think next year will be any better.

The good news is the P12 won't be embarrassed in a playoff match up.  Instead, we will be embarrassed across the board, just like last year, one bad bowl game at a time.

At least Larry Scott was ferociously booed during the trophy ceremony.

Was that when he was checking his bank balance?  Larry Scott - The P12 could pay more, but could not get less.

That game couldn't have been worse for the Coogs or the conference.

In some ways it was a lot like UW's loss to Auburn. They were pretty clearly the better team outside the opponent's 30, but they couldn't finish scoring drives. The Huskies well might have lost had it not been for the on a platter Pick 6 on what should have been a first down catch by Utah.

I'm left convinced the Huskies should not be rated any higher than #11, but also trying to convince myself why Penn State wouldn't have won the Pac-12 this season, without any real justification for the Coogs to be rated any higher than #13.
