Wow, Urban Meyer retiring, leaving OSU - Redrum - 12-04-2018

Will coach bowl game, then gone. Wonder if some of the coaches who just re-upped at other programs are reconsidering.

Given what  has been publicly released about the stress and (literal) headaches he experiences,  sounds like a wise decision. I don't follow the coaching carousel at all closely, so hard for me to put together a literal "A List" of coaches that would be interested and/or have the qualifications to coach a premier program like OSU.

the retirement might be good timing for Stanford on several '19 and '20 recruits.

They have already promoted their OC Ryan Day. $4.5 mil/yr for 5 years.

I am not a fan of Urban Meyer, but I am at least grateful that he did not use the “I want to spend more time with my family” line. He did after leaving the Florida job, and was clearly not telling the truth, as he promptly took an arguably more demanding job further away.

He's also not leaving OSU: https://twitter.com/Dan_Hope/status/1070032207861960704?s=19

At least not until the ND or USC jobs open up. . . .

At the end of 2009 he went to the hospital then sort of tried to retire from the job, but came back for 2010 (though reportedly wasn't "all there" that season).
He didn't coach 2011.
Then was OSU coach for 2012.

Not sure a year off quite qualifies as "promptly" or not.

For taking one year off (which is what he did) before taking a head coaching job at a high profile position like Ohio State, it does in my book.

Here's one writer who doesn't think very highly of one Urban Meyer:

If/when they write a book (with a subsequent movie, of course) about Urban's coaching career I suggest it be named "The Wolf of College Football".
