WVB-National Championship vs. Nebraska - d4cohn - 12-15-2018

Stanford struggling a bit to start the National Championship match against Nebraska. Early timeout has Card down 9-4 in first set.

Nebraska's defense has been pretty solid so far. Card weathering the storm, only down 16-13.

Stanford somehow steals Set #1! 28-26, as the Card overcome several early mistakes to still take a 1-0 lead.

Serving proved to be the difference for Stanford, with 5 aces over only 2 service errors. Nebraska with one ace over 2 service errors.

Nebraska's serving has been embarassingly bad so far.

Nebraska with a 15-13 Set #2 lead behind strong offense in both sets. Stanford hitting .389 in Set #2 so far, but the block party from
the BYU match hasn't materialized so far.

Stanford's block really struggling so far. Too many tough plays for Hentz to have to try to make.

RE: WVB-National Championship vs. Nebraska - d4cohn - 12-15-2018

Fitzmorris sparking Stanford in Set #3. Stuff block on Foecke, who has been getting the better of Alade most of the night, and then a kill off the block of Foecke. Card leading 7-2 in Set #3, 1-1 overall.

Alade getting into the block party with 2 stuff blocks in quick succession. Stanford leads 15-8. Nebraska's crowd has been silenced momentarily.

Stanford rolls to a Set #3 win 25-16. Tami Alade found her footing to help stifle Nebraska's offense. 1 more.

Set #4 quickly slipping away for Stanford. As good as we looked in Set #3, we have been just awful in Set #4. Down 9-1; barring comeback, this is going to go the distance for the championship.

Stanford's passing Set #4 has been unbelievably bad. This has to be much, much better in Set #5.

Stanford goes on quick 4-0 run in Set #5 to take a 5-3 lead. Timeout Nebraska. Exceptional serving from Stanford so far in Set #5.

Stanford up 12-10, after Holly Campbell delivers yet another clutch kill.

Stanford wins the title!! Congrats to Coach Hambly on bringing his first championship back to the Farm!

Well deserved for both.

As expected, this one had to be well, well earned.

And the streak continues!  Another NCAA Championship, at least one every year since 1976-1977.

RE: WVB-National Championship vs. Nebraska - Griffins78 - 12-15-2018

Omg! What a stressful match and so glad they pulled it out at the end. Strong, clutch serving by Wilson at the end.

Thought Jenna Gray could have been MVP

So very happy for our team and the Hamblys. They have done so much for the program.

Morgan Hentz, all-universe. 32 digs tonight. The last one was amazing.

Congrats to Coach Hambly and the team!

So this makes 43 consecutive years with at least one NCAA team championship!

That was an amazing match. Hard to believe Stanford won given how tough it was to score on Nebraska. But it wasn’t like Stanford’s defense was easy to score on either.

I still remember the first title they won when Gary Radnich interviewed John Shaw after. Pretty impressive to win 8 titles since 1991 given how fierce the competition is and the obvious recruiting challenges.

RE: WVB-National Championship vs. Nebraska - d4cohn - 12-15-2018

The junior class of Hentz, Fitzmorris, Plummer, and Gray now definitively (if they weren't there already with 3 consecutive Final Fours, and 2 NC appearances) among the all-time greats at Stanford. No matter what happens next year, this group arguably might already be the greatest class in Stanford history. Right up there with those great classes from the '90s.

Other question is KP the greatest volleyball player in program history (even with the all-timers like Kerry Walsh Jennings) off two consecutive NPOY, and 2 out of 3 NC.

ALL RIGHT NOW!

I could feel my heartbeat in my throat during that 5th set.  I've really come to enjoy watching this team ever since the Pac-12 Network became a thing and they became a regular part of my TV viewing.
