Very surprising. I hope this works out for him, except when he comes to Stanford, of course.

Reid and the two Foxes can now knock him out of his Nike’s early and often.

His brother will be a freshman at Oregon, and the family is wealthy.

I guess he thinks he'll be at a relative advantage over next year's QB draft class.  He's already pretty good.

He clearly doesn't see his college football experience as a mere training ground for the NFL. Refreshing.

The kid carries a 4+ GPA; academic all American etc. A middle class family from Eugene; he's no silver spoon Josh Rosen type.

Oregon has a substantial part of their offense returning, plus some quality redshirts from 2018 and a boffo 2019 recruiting class that may provide some quality depth by mid 2019. With Herbert they'll view themselves as solid contenders for the North title and Conference crown. So will we, and likely Washington. It will be interesting, and we have them at home in 2019.

Luck missed his first season to redshirting, while Herbert missed half of his first two seasons to injury. I don't see this as qualitatively any different from when Andrew chose to return for his 4th year on campus (2011) with aspirations of a national championship run. Ducks gave us our only regular season loss that year to derail those aspirations, so we may have a chance for payback on that in 2019.
